Rocker 5er hitch - it just feels wierd !

rolling camper around in drive-way

My prodigy brake controller is giving me a code for "Trailer is connected and Prodigy loses connection to battery ground (flashing)". The funny thing is when it gives me this code my trailer is not even hooked up and the code is not flashing. It just comes on when the brakes are pushed (no trailer hooked up). I pulled the trailer this weekend and the brakes worked fine. Any advise and information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

I looked at this thread before I posted, but is that what my code is telling me. That it is the open ground.

Thanks,

Eric

Eric,

Forgive the ramblings of a Jordan user, but a very similar situation happened on our 2002. The green "connected" light was faintly illuminated and I would show a low-level amperage on the Jordan's readout whenever I applied the truck brakes - all this was with no trailer connected!

The problem turned out to be in the factory 7-pin connector mounted on the hitch receiver. These are not sealed worth a darn! After disassembling it (and the wiring connector that attaches it to the harness), cleaning thoroughly (full of mud, grit and water) and reassembling with everything packed full of dielectric grease, I haven't had any more problems. The contamination was producing high resistance shorts between the terminals of the connectors.

I just talked to technical support and they told me to send mine in and they would send me the new version.

Thanks,

Eric

I would second checking the connector on the back of the factory 7-pin.

Mine was corroded to the point that I had to replace it completely

I'll check it tonight when I get off work. I wonder if Tekonsha reimburses you for mailing the controller back.

Thanks,

Eric

You're experiencing the same thing I experienced. I had my Prodigy from my previous truck and put it in my '03 in early October. I saw the same thing, open ground without the trailer connected as well as when connected. They sent me a test unit since this was even worse for those with a Ford and they were trying to figure it out. It fixed my problem and now they are replacing all units with the problem.
