Just receieved a reman ECM from cummins for my project truck. It has a tag that says it must be calibrated before it can be started. Does this mean a trip to the dealer to have it "flashed" or is this something that can be done with a DRB. Thanks.

It should be able to be re-flashed by a dealership or by a Cummins service center using the InSight software. Cummins can load whatever profile you want into it. :D

The Ecm as it is right now has no information in it at all. It is like a computer , with out the startup disks being loaded in to it it will do nothing . The sc code callibration must be loaded into it , there is no reflash on something that hasn't been calbrated in the first place , Just to clear up any miss information .

Quote from the tag

"This ECM is NOT calibrated. Engine can NOT be started or programmable parameters entered until calibrated to required ESDN, SC OPTION. "

What is the ESDN? What does SC OPTION mean? What is the dealer going to have to do?

I know what ESN is but never heard ESDN.

Thanks for any answers to my stoopid questions!!!

Stacerbob, ESDN is the software we use at the shop to cal the Ecm with SC is the application code which is the Hp,torque, etc. The SC list goes off of what Ecm Part # you have, which goes off of the engine build code, i. e. pistons, inj, etc. If you want power and gobs of torque see if you can't get your hands on a sc for a fire truck.

More help please!

What does SC stand for? What do I ask for? Who do I ask? Is this something that the dealer can do? I just want to get it going, sure I would love to have gobs of power but I am very limited on my knowledge as to what to do to it. Both of the dealers here have never had much dealing with the cummins, one says they have never even done a reflash. Should I have went ahead and paid more than twice as much for the dealers ECM? They wanted to know the VIN, the ESN & the mileage then it would be 7-10 days to get it.

Call where you got the ECM from and ask them If they Calibrated your Ecm already . When our parts department sells one they get us the SC code off of the old Ecm and we Cal it to that Ecm Calibration. To Simplify things the ECM part number is your application and engine build that will define what SC codes there are available then the SC code is where your hp and torque ratings are for the engine. Better yet Email or PM me with your Phone # and I'll call and explain it to you . all this typing is giving me a headache.

They all come blank now.

"Mopar is currently phasing out pre-programmed Cummins Diesel Engine Control Modules (ECM). New modules will no longer be preprogrammed when received from Mopar. Replacement of future ECM's will require programming utilizing the DRBIII and MDS2. 1998 1/2 - 2002 modules will cause the "Wait to Start" light to flash, indicating the module has not been programmed"
