I am wondering if the Exhaust brake can be programmed to be on as the "default" setting and use the dash switch to turn it off?

I have a 2008 SLT truck for work and have now installed a remote start system. If the exhaust brake would come on with this it would be great for winter warm up in the mornings.

With the soot issues overloading the DPF it will be interesting to see how long your system stands long idle periods... I think I'd look for a way to power up the exhaust brake with the remote start circuit. .

This is how the cab chassis are set up (brake stays on through key cycle events), not the pickups though. I have not found out how to do it for mine.

But since the remote start feature by-passes the key cycle event..... does it power up the other features when the key is on... or just allow the engine to start and run??

It does power up all the accessories so why not the EB.

jelag... . your first reply asks the same question my original post does. The reason I would like this feature is to get away from long idle/warm up periods.

At 30 below it would make a huge difference.

I don't have a remote start, so not that familiar w/ it. My guess is that when you turn the truck off the power to the ex brake switch is turned off. So, using a remote start, or the key you will get the same result. There may be a way to keep the switch hot... . but not sure if that is the best way to do it.

Really! I didn't know that! Are you sure? That is good news to me because my cab and chassis should arrive at the dealer soon. I was thinking how aggravating it will be to always have to enable the eb every time I start the engine but if it is programmed to stay on I'll be happy.

HBarlow, I am positive as one of my buddies has a cab and chassis and we have talked about this.

I absolutely hope you are correct. That is very good news to me if it is. I have had a Jacobs eb on both of my Dodges, a previous '01 six speed and the current '06 automatic, and use the eb constantly. If the engine is running the brake is powered up although it is ECM controlled on the '06. With both of them the old manual two speed axle type switch was turned on and always remained on. I would like to use the new one the same way and hate to think that I will have to turn it on each and everytime I restart the motor like it is in the pickups.

I'll let you know in a week or so when I have the new truck.

If it will work on a cab and chassis it should be programable on pickups, or is it a completely different program for the different trucks?

Drdorian,

You were absolutely correct. I took delivery of my 2008 3500 cab and chassis today and drove it 300 miles home from the dealer where I buy trucks. I had cause to shut down and get out of the truck several times. Each time I restarted it and started driving again I glanced down and checked. The tiny light in the middle of the exhaust brake switch remained lighted and the brake worked each time without pressing the switch again.

I'll get my wife, who is computer literate, to help me load a couple of pics. I don't have a bed yet.

CM truck beds, who I had ordered a modified bed from, was recently bought by Big Tex trailers. The result is CM now has 1900 orders for new beds in the system and can currently only build 50 per day. (CM will open another manufacturing plant) They simply never got around to building the one I ordered and the goofy woman I was talking to at the bed dealer near my truck dealer either didn't ask the right questions, didn't understand the answers, or was simply clueless. I showed up early yesterday with the new truck and she didn't have the bed and didn't know when it would be built.

Harvey

I don't know the answer but I've never heard of a dealer or owner who had the capability to reprogram the PCM. My guess is no, it can't be reprogrammed.
