For all of you running propane, could you give me some first hand information about why or why not it would be performance option. I know nothing about it, but have heard it is like nitrouse on gassers. If you could give me the advantages/disadvantages of using it. Also how it works. Thanks in advance.

A little knowledge

I know a little about it. My brother has it on his PowerStroke. I drove it once, and wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. Mileage was supposed to increase, but it didn't for him.

What the systems are supposed to do is inject propane in with the diesel/air mixture when turbo boost comes on. You can set it mild or aggressive. 10% propane up to 25-30% propane.

It is also supposed to burn "cleaner"

I am not the expert on the subject, as I have only read stuff about it, and have info from my brother. I'm sure others have it on their truck.

I am leary of running it on my truck due to the inherent danger of propane. Yes it is fairly safe, but I have heard of guys with propane systems on their trucks and the fittings coming loose, and gas spewing everywhere! YIKES!

I am in Enid, and we could get together. You may hear me overhead all the time, as you live where we fly our low-level missions.

SOLER

Thanks for the reply soler, stationed at vance? I was stationed there back in 93-94. It's changed alot since then, go through there every once in a while on my way out to the little sahara to ride quads. Thanks for the info, I doubt if I put it on my truck, mainly due to my experience with propane converted gas trucks. But was just curious what improvements if any had come along with it.

The very best thing you could do is to call either HVAC at www.performancediesel.net or Keith at www.performancedieselproducts.com These two have provided me with excellent customer service far and above what is expected. HVAC is generally acknowledged as a pioneer in trying propane and nitrous on the Cummins ISB 5. 9 24 valve. He has a wealth of information and good deals to share.

I run Keith's propane system on my truck, and love it. It is most useful at the drag strip, or when pulling my RV trailer.

However, I'm no expert on propane. Call the guys that know, if you're serious about trying it.

I feel a lot safer with Keith's Powershot 2000 system than I would with probably any other system out there. The system makes the difference.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated in any way, other than friendship, with the two vendors mentioned above.

you're choice-don't recommend it!

Morphious... I have had propane in my truck for about a year now. . There are basically two systems: Vapor and liquid. Vapor systems are generally cheaper, much like a BarBQ set-up and liquid is like the type on fork lifts. . I have a liquid system and personally feel it is a little safer and and you don't have to watch your pressure in the tank during seasons changes. Either system, is not one to play with to the extreme. I don't recommend it for every day driving, and it has the potential for certain engine failures if not monitored properly. If I had to do it all over again, I would not have installed propane. With today's fueling boxes, injectors etc. , money better spent on bombing for performance through these devises is wiser... Unless you plan to race, or have lots of money to fix your truck I would recommend against it... my $. 02

Propane Is A Bunch Of Fun

Thank you Briar, I appreciate your kind words:)

Morphius,

Propane is a performance option because it works. No egt appreciation. Decrease in smoke. 80 - 100 horsepower.

Please don't seek out the cheapest propane system and purchase it for cheap sake. Get one you understand(function, not price), and purchase a element of quality and safety built in. Your truck won't be worth a hoot if the tires are melted to the ground!:)

Thanks for the replys all, looks like my new fatboy will be in quicker than I had planned, so no mods for the dog till I get the hog... .

I appreciate the info on propane, since I don't race it would not be much of a bennie to me, I just terrize the highways and biways... .
