I need some info on antifreeze. I bought some antifreeze from my local Dodge dealer. It is for my 2004, which needs a HOAT antifreeze. The part number on the 1 gallon jug is p/n 05066386AA. No where on the jug does it say HOAT. I gave the part number listed in my owners manual to the parts manager, and he says that number has been superseeded by the number I listed above. Is this correct? Again, what the parts manager gave me is Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant. 5 year/100,000 mile p/n 05066386AA.

I bought my antifreeze from a NAPA store. NAPA seems to stock the Zerex X-05 HOAT compliant antifreeze for $10. 50 a gallon.

I would do a search on the web for retailers that sell Zerex X-05, Antifreeze in your area.

I recently did a flush and fill on my '05. I emailed Cummins/Fleetguard regarding antifreeze. They recommended their ES Compleat EG (ethylene glycol) for our 3rd gen trucks. It is a HOAT formula--even though they don't advertise it as that. It is good for 150,000 miles and based on no contamination at that point, you can "recharge" the coolant components with their SCA formula. They specifically said it is a lifetime coolant with proper monitoring. So I went with it.

Cheers.

You can also use John Deere pre mixed coolant. It is a HOAT coolant. I use it in all of my trucks and tractors some of which date back to 1991. Never had an issue. :)

Thanks for the feedback. I just need to top off the coolant overflow bottle, maybe 1/2 gallon total? Everything I've read about the Mopar coolant starts with "After flushing the system... " I think I'm safe with what the dealer sold me. Total antifreeze added will only be about 1 qt mixed with 1 qt. of distilled water. I just wished the container listed HOAT somewhere on the labels!

I use nothing but good ol' green Prestone in mine, along with a shot of RMI-25

I hope your initial flush was thorough. . HOAT and anything else are not compatible. . and from what I gather engine damage will happen if HOAT (OEM FILL) and non-HOAT mix. .

If you do a very good job on a flush than you can run anything you want. .

I just did mine and I used Zerex G05.

Here is my write-up... https://www.turbodieselregister.com...s-2003-2007/218402-coolant-flush-3rd-gen.html

Have you flushed your system yet? The change interval is 60months regardless of mileage or 150K miles.

It was , I filled and drained several times with my de-ionized/ de- mineralized water, along with some Super Flush, while driving it a day in between each drain. been running the green stuff for around 200k now, radiator still looks brand new inside ! :)

Those of you that have flushed your cooling systems; what did you do with all of the water and antifreeze? That must be about 30 gallons by the time the system was clear of all of the old antifreeze. I have not done a complete flush yet. I was waiting till I hit 100,000 miles, in a couple of months. Seems that I would need a 50 gallon drum to flush all of that fluid into.

Ummm... well. . uhh... be sure to follow local and state laws regarding the disposal of such items !!

I collected all of mine in the empty distilled water jugs. Called around and the county has a collection date 1 time per year. Thinking how much that sucked, I thought who else has tons of antifreeze during flushes? 18 Wheeler service centers! So, went down to the Petro service center and the guys actually wanted to keep the first drain (about 4 gallons of what initially came out before the flushes) and the rest they dumped in their waste container at no charge. Fella said he would "reuse" the stuff that I drained out... . Anyways, all in all they took all 31 gallons of flushed coolant/water. Win.

Cheers.

What do you all think about using a vacum to completely empty the cooling system, filling with distilled water and repeating this until clear? If you snaked a small diameter hose through the block after removing the water pump, you should be able to get into the block and remove most of the old antifreeze. I just ordered a factory service manual on CD from Geno's. I'm curious to see what the "factory" procedure is for a cooling system flush.

AH64ID, thanks for the link. I had looked at it once before, but didn't completely read it. I like your procedure; looks like my project for next weekend! I like doing a job right. It seems that the factory procedure would not do a complete flush. Your's however, that clean water after the last flush says theres no more of the original antifreeze left in the system. Thats what I'm looking for!
