Ok guys Im getting around to pull my head, Im going to have Diesel Darryl Poole fire-ring the truck but I cant see paying $200+ (or whatever it is) to have my head decked since I work at a machine shop... that leads to my question. What is the proper way to deck the head? does it have to be at 0. 000? AND what do you use? we have plenty of bridgeport mills... . Im not sure if a fly cut or a end mill would work best. What do you do abou the steel shavings?

Thanks guys/gals

I guess I could use a end mill, the surface doenst have to be perfectly flat does it? I could use the end mill then hone off any high spot?

(the fly cutter has carbide tips)

any more input guys!

It should weigh under 200, I could wrap it up and put it on a pallet. Ive been told that to DECK the head it usues a "decking machine" is this on the right track or what?

The 24V head weighs in right around 150lbs.

Thats screwed up Justin----everytime I took my heads off they weighed 60,60,and 30 pounds-----or are you saying they are not supposed to come off in pieces?LOL :D

Another way to think about this is what if something goes hay wire on the bridgeport by pure accident and the head gets accidently screwed up... in that light, $200. 00 might be well spent... .

All depends on the risk you want to take...

---just my 2 cents---

Thats true, Im going to have it done at a shop, they are going to charge me 80. 00 to do it.

Thanks guys for the info

Ian
