Would somebody please explain the term properly tuned engine to me. my truck is a 97 club cab w/ 5speed , exh. brk. k&n and amsoil throughtout. I am planning to buy another trailer and max out on GCVW. where should I go from here to handle 18-20k> thanks

Jim, Here's how I started I first got the TST #12(230HP/605T) torque plate kit which had a boost elbow, also put the AFC spring kit in, & Gauges(EGT& boost). I also removed the muffler at about the same time. This was a pretty good combination for all around use. All of the sudden my EGT got higher than I was used to and the cat had had it fill. I removed it and replaced it with a Dynomax bullet racing muffler and the EGTs where back in check in fact slightly lower(75-100deg). i then went with the TST #11(280HP/685T) plate, shortly after I installed the Psycotty air system to help keep my EGT in check. Right between the two plate the throwout bearing was howling so I replaced the stock clutch with a LUK Pro Gold. The biggest differance between the two TSt plate towing was I could use a higher gear pulling hills with the #11. Well last summer I got the bombing bug from Joe D and installed 370 HP injectors and an 16CM2 turbo housing. This set up slipped the Pro Gold clutch in 5th right at first and then in 4th and then 3rd at full throttle empty. For this last winter I went back to the #12 plate #ad

a month ago I nstalled South Bends Hy HP clutch and went back to the #11. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST TOWING SET UP I HAVE HAD #ad

I haven't as of yet towed my TT but have towed my brother in laws back hoe 4 or 5 times. I haven't weighed this set up but it is much heavier than my TT and it goes 14,700 dry.
My milage has gotten better all along as long as I keep my foot out of it(hard to do). Good Luck and beware of the bombing bug #ad

Jim:

I have a followed a "similar" path to
"drawson", however, I have the automatic
transmission.

"Properly tuned" to me means having the
P7100 pump "calibrated" by a certified
Bosch pump facility that has the "test
stands" and trained technicians to
do that work. You and "drawson" have
the "good" 215 pump. That pump has the
capability to be "set on the high side
of the specs" for optimum performance.
When a governor spring kit, AFC spring
kit and high flow delivery valves are
added along with a "proper timing setting"
(16-16. 5) you are "properly tuned" so to
speak.

I am no expert on this but I do know
that the right shop, (for me it was
"Scheid Diesel") can "tune" a P7100
pump. And the difference in mine from
"before to after" was AMAZING!

Take care and good luck!
