Joe G. and Bmoeller, I see Forrest has his timing at 16. 5* did you two do the same? I (when I say "I" I mean R. ebel) ;) advanced my timing to 16. 5 a while back and I didn't get any mileage increase that was reported, but now I read an article by Joe D. about needing to add 370's to get better mileage with timing advancement. What are your thoughts? 20 mpg would be sweet, and I realize it's all in the right foot, but just babying down the hwy now the best I can get at 75 mph is 17 mpg. At 60-65 on summer fuel I've seen 20 once or twice, but who has time for that? :-laf

When I still had my dually box on, I pulled a best of 17. 5mpg @70mph and with 4. 10/ stock 215 tires. Before I was BOMBed (had 5" exhaust and K&N drop-in at the time only), I could only get a best of 16. 1 running 70-75.

My timing is still stock, at the moment. Need to bump it up a little.

The 370's are fine for our 12v's. They are the marine version as most know and are matched to the marine piston which has a larger piston fuel bowl. With the stock piston, the spray pattern will reach outside the bowl resulting in a less efficient burn of the fuel and the smoke. But with proper timing, it will not be that bad. Mine is clean at idle after it is warm.

With enough air, they will make huge power. Yes a custom injector will have more power still, but a 370 will work well. I'm not sure what Piers does to his 370's so you will need to ask him.

To get the full effect out of a 370, you need to advance injection timing. This will yeild more power and better economy. My twin turbo 12v with custom 370 injectors netted me 20. 3 mpg on my last trip at 70 -75 mph. On the return trip, with stiff head winds, and averaging between 75 and 90 mph, I got 18. 5. Dogging it around in mixed driving, I've seen a worst of 17. 7.

Now, if I could control myself to slow down a bit, I might see better.

When I had stock 370's and stock turbo, I could get stupid EGT's if I asked for it. But they were very easy to control with my foot. That was at 430hp. On my way to Muncie in 2002, I got 24mpg on a slow convoy ride up with that set-up.

I agree with Dave here on the 370's, there hard to beat! Remember that a 370 has a 12 thousands hole so yes they can flow allot of fuel and it all depends on the pump, from there you can go to honed 370's that are not that high to EDM's that start costing more. With a real amount of timing say 18 degrees the pattern is not that bad but after that it gets out of the bowl like David was talking about, I've seen 17. 5 with a stock gasket and it looked fine to me, I know of 30 degrees and it looked bad, the deal with EDM's is the pattern is tightened up to stay in the bowl, mine were better at 24 degrees than 370's at 17. 5, now I have the big bowl pistons so it's never going to be an issue. BOTW my EDM's are on a 18 thou hole... ..... not a big injector.

I am running a set of Lennys @DDP stage 4 injectors. They are alot cleaner at idle and around town driving. I really like them over the 370s. :)

How is that new motor Jim. Been able to get any numbers on it yet?

No way, it's new and tight so it needs a break in as per the builder, it's good though and will need another re-torque and valve run after I get off the road this time, need to borrow a trailer for a while or come down there and back, Piers want to make sure I don't scuff the cyl walls.

How does the cost of the stage 4 injectors compare to the 370's? Have you towed with them, are you able to keep egt's at a reasonable level when towing? And who the heck is DDP, do they have a web sight? Is that too many questions for one post? Btw Rich Keller says hi.

DDP is Dynomite Diesel Performance (360-794-7974)

Cost of DDP#4 12v is 800. 00

Stage #3 is 600. 00

The stage 4s have proven 817hp @1515tq and that is what I drive everyday.
