Is new exhaust and high intake air filter needed?

Hey all, just wanted to announce that I finally got me a 2007 QC DRW LWB truck... Thanks to Tomeygun and Lou Fusz Dodge for one of the best buying experiences I've ever had. It really blew my mind at how easily and smoothly the purchase went. The jake brake, espar pre-heater and LineX were installed superbly(thanks for that to LineX of St. Louis). Even had a full tank of diesel when I picked it up.

The 1000 mile drive back to NYC was interesting enough because I was trying to stay with the "vary your speed/load" rule for the whole trip. I think I did an ok job. Overall mileage was 15. 6 on the console. I'm pretty happy with that as a highway mileage as it isnt even really broken in yet. My G56 shifts pretty smoothly and I have no complaints whatsoever about it. In fact it reminds me a lot of how the Eaton Roadrangers feel. Notchy and firm, I suspect it'll get a bit easier to shift as it gets some use, but even now its fine.

And I must say I'm AMAZED at how refined this thing is. It's replacing a 99 diesel suburban... and Its just a totally different league of vehicle. It made me giggle like a school girl the entire trip. For the first time in 5 years I've gone through a drivethrough without shutting the engine off to order! :D

I'll have pics later this week I hope.

I know the feeling. I've had my truck for about 5 weeks now. My first diesel.

Although, this is my 3rd Dodge.

I am so far impressed. I'm going to actually tow my Jeep on a trailer this coming weekend. Only about 60 miles one way and not overly hilly (at least not the highway).

Good luck and enjoy.

Interesting story... well to me it is...

This is actually my third diesel... First was a 1979 Mercedes 300SD turbodiesel in powder blue... lol... Next I had the 1999 GMC Suburban K2500 with the venerable 6. 5l TD.

Kinda funny, the mercedes is long gone, but its engine lives on, powering the hydraulic pumps on a crane barge in Jamaica Bay. It had over 480k on it when the shock towers rusted out and I had to scrap it, but in disassembling it as a highschool kid, I learned about all things automotive and even discovered my future career path. I'm now a manager/tech at a Truck & Bus repair shop!

The burb is still kicking, runs quite well in fact... Its laid up temporarily pending a new transmission and complete front end rebuild. Its previous owner somehow didnt understand the concept that grease nipples should be greased, and it resulted in the entire front end wearing out.

The new truck has 1200 miles on it now, and I'm still giddy like a school girl about it.
