Is this possible

Once again,,,,,,,,,,

I just read this thread yesterday morning and then ran into the situation that WOWZY mentioned. On my way back from the auto parts store where I picked up some amber bulbs to do the "rear amber turn signal in the BU light trick", I pulled into the gas station / truck stop to fuel up @ $1. 08. :D The gas / diesel combo pumps were busy and I noticed a PSD waiting. So I just drove around to the BIG truck islands and started fueling. The PSD guy seen me and decided he would do the same thing. The look on his face  after I heard this clunk,,,clunk sound of him trying to get the nozzle in was followed by "Hey, what did you do,,,,,,,,,,modify your filler neck?" in a rather perturbed voice as he slammed the nozzle back into the pump. That was funny enough, but I couldn't resist jokingly saying "Naw,,,,,,,Dodge made it that way so we can RUN with the BIG BOYS" :p (that came out before I thought about it,,,,oops!);) But the kicker was when his woman sitting in the truck said "I like that truck,,,,,,,,,you should have got one like that"

OOOOWWEEEE,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,That pushed his button!!! He was still waiting in line back at the other pumps after I paid and I just smiled and waved as I pulled out onto the road. :D :D :D :D :D

And I smiled and giggled all the way home.

who are you....

RattlinRam...

With all the color in that post I read it before the name and thought that is was TimTheToolManTaylor. His posts always have lots of color and what not. ;)

I have not had any experinces with any kind of people at the pump. Knock on wood I guess.

HEE HEE HEE,,,,,,,,,,,,

But Joe,

I was just FUNN'IN :D :D :D ,,,,,,,,,HONEST!

TxDieselKid,

There is NO way I could compete with the ToolMan, which by the way, I haven't seen too many posts from him lately. (Sure hope him and MiniMe hasn't gotten into trouble)

What is the deal with the PSD filler neck?? I own a 99. 5 that will handle any diesel pump. The early 99's had a smaller neck , but all the ones built since Dec of 98 have a huge fill hole in them. I drive my brother in laws 2001 quite a bit and it has the large opening... handles any pump like mine including the one with the ring on the end. Either you guys are running into a bunch of early 99 trucks or the stories just don't jive.

If I am driving the PSD and there is a Cummins at the pump we usually don't chat much. Once in about every 10 times. If it is another PSD they almost always come back and ask about the bumpers or what not. It is exactly the same if I am in the Cummins. If another Cummins is around we usually talk. If it is a PSD we hardly ever talk. Every once in a while one will ask about fuel mileage. He is usually miffed at the 21-23 I average in the Cummins. I have also had PSD guys tell me they are getting 22 in F350 4X4 CREWCABS... yeah right!! I think most of us are just taking pride in ownership and really don't care to listen to the other guys presumed BS.

it's like that anywhere you go...

it's sad, but in every camp there are the die-hards who think everything else is crap...

I have my personal preferences, and it's sad when you can't talk cars with someone because they are totally biased, but it's really cool/refreshing when you meet a fellow hot-rodder who may have different preferences, but still sees the big picture...

filler necks

Same here on my 97 PSD. I just filled up at the "big boy" pumps, ring and all on the end of the nozzle. No problem, it fits right in.

I have noticed the same think at the pumps too. Unless I start the conversation, there usually isn't one. The only real ones I have had is after pulling on the highway with a truck for a good distance and we both stop for fuel at the same stop.

Forrest,

I can't argue with that. I usually take my Mustangs to shows involving all cars versus Ford or Mustang shows. I like to look at them all. I am currently building a 67 2dr Caprice with a factory 427 4 speed..... way cool and way rare. After that is a 66 INTL 3/4 ton CREWCAB 4X4... an old Air Force runway truck... . way cooler and likely as rare... CJ

Question Not Answered

You fellas still havent addressed the heart of my original rant... are PSD owners extra-gullible? Who is selling these poor souls the idea of a chip = 400hp? Cant say I've ever heard a DC driver make these wild claims... .

how many Cummins owners are there out there who read their TDR and believe they'll get 30mpg while towing?

there are idiots everywhere you go and there are good people everywhere you go... but you have to be open minded enough to see them...

but, it's always good for a laugh to poke fun at the closed minded ones... especially if they're not driving one like yours!!! ;)

hey Cobrajet,

I just realized you're in Arlington!

I'm in Richardson... my buddies and I build some fun cars... mostly turbo gas combos... I LOVE old iron, but I just don't have the money for most of it unfortunately...

shoot me an email some time... we should meet up and BS/bench race sometime!

take care,

Forrest

Hey COBRAJET,

I think the guy I seen at the pumps was just having a bad day and I was only joking. More than likely I will see him again at the same station because I think he lives nearby. If I see him again, I'll ask him about the filler neck and what year his is. As far as Brands, I do think I've got a great truck with the Dodge. However, the reason I started looking at Diesels, was because a buddy showed up in my driveway with a brand new black PSD SD.

I would probably have had one just like it for my first diesel truck, but the price was about $5,000 more than the Dodge I bought. She will be 2yrs old in Jan. and not one problem yet. :D

Now, how about some pics of that 67 Caprice when ya get done. My first car was a 67 Impala 2dr 283. My 3rd car was a 67 Impala SS 327 2dr. Man, I liked that body style. :D :D

I love this Thread... .

I own (See sig) '99 ETC/5sp

My little brother owns a '99 F350 PSD/Auto

Dad has a 1997 chebby 2500HD 454/4L80E (Planning on a new Duramax/Allison soon, unless I can talk him out of it... )

It all makes for interesting conversations around the dinner table when we're all there...

I've offered to get a log chain from the shed, but have no takers yet :)

Each to their own - I LOVE MY CUMMINS!!! (And the Dodge part aint too bad either!)

I guess I don't know why so many on this forum complain about Ford and Chevy trucks. If everyone was as enlightened as we are, and drove a Dodge/Cummins, the prices would go so high that I couldn't afford one.

Just got back from a trip and talked to Ford and Dodge owners at the pumps. Found all friendly but the Dodge folks knew more about what they were driving. Turned one Ram owner on to TDR and E Brakes. He was pulling a big fiver with my trucks twin and wondered what the hissing sound was.

Forrest... I will do that... CJ

Rattlinram... I think the 67 is the best looking one and the only year with that body type. The car is in the paint shop right now. The drivetrain is complete. I should have it back together by early summer. I haven't done one of these before... . and bought the car in pieces so I am sure there will be some learning and taking back apart along the way. I am lucky since a shop/ mail order company for Chevys is less than 10 minutes away. The Cummins I purchased was about 4K less than a comparable PSD... . with better mileage. The so called "DODGE" in it has not really rared it's ugly head so far... . CJ

I too have had PSD owners pull up to the truck island after seeing me there with the dodge filling up. I know after a few clunks that they have the small filler neck. It must be that Ford runs out of the diesel filler necks so they just use the ones from the gassers. That makes sense, why hold up a whole truck for one part that if the owner really wants it right can ask the dealer to fix...

I feel kind of bad

I'm not the most talkative person in the world (kind of shy really) so if you ever see a intense blue 4x4 quadcab dodge with a Cummins and TDR emblems on the D pilars say HI.

Since I bought the truck I've change quite a bit but still try to stay quiet. But that's hard to do when you but a sticker acrossed the fron of your windsheild that says STROKE THIS and has a little Hobes ******* on a Ford symbol, thats always a good coversation starter. :D

I'll try to be a little more friendly

For the most part, the Ford drivers I talk to are more curious than anything. I refrain from denegrating or referencing or anything that is confrontational. Had one guy say he had 250k with no pump, injector whatever problems. I just said that's good. If it's a lie well then it's his problem not mine.

Some people are ill informed but can be set straight with a little finesse. Some are just plain ignorant or arrogant and it's not worth the effort. I have had Cummins owners pull up along side of me with that 'my  don't stink' attitude written all over their face.
