Fletcher, did you tango with your bull?

I need to marry a good mechanic or

pretty nice. i'd like it more with a 6 speed than the slushbox, but the slushbox will be quicker...

i am pretty good with my ricer accessories, but what is a HKS Vein Pressure controller???... when i hear that, i think controller for a VGT, but i don't think that is it???

I don't think you could get the 6 speed trans with a targa top model.

Well, don't know for surew about that, but I believe the targa cars are auto only.

A lot of manufactures did that because the open topped cars gave up a lot of structural rigidty, and the tourqe convertors helped soak all the extra tourqe up.

TMTT knows me well. :D

I read about this car a while ago - it's a sweet rig... but not all that impressive in the overall scheme of things.

I have a few good friends with MKIV Supras. The twin turbo thing has not proven to be as effective as a big ball-bearing single. 3 Garrett T-25's? I really hope they used GT-25R's...

The days of 1000hp street-driven Supras are getting longer and longer...

AFAIK: You can get any combination of hardtop/targa with either transmission.

The HKS VPC gets rid of the OEM MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor)... less restriction on the intake side and fools the ECM into running more fuel into the engine.

Besides diesels - I'm absolutely-freakin'-totally-insanely in-love with these engines. I will NEVER forget the first time I drove one... thank goodness it was FAR from stock. It went 10. 77 back in the day... now it has a TH-400 with a transbrake. Last I heard - the transmission is back together... hrmmm... perhaps I could take another jaunt in it.

Reminds me of a T-shirt I saw at Scheid's this year. It said "Your ricer sounds like my ass after a night of eating mexican food".

Too Bad that Particular "Ricer" (Which is not BTW) will mop ANYBODY up so far that has responded thus far on this page. The Supra in my eyes is still THE #1 street sweeper of modern day foreign cars. #2 would have to be the Previous Gen Skyline #3 STi , #4 Evo 7

The supra responds wicked well to enhancements (Well the TT GTE motors did anyhow. ) MtY is right. I have driven / ridden in one local machine that is rather stout with 770 HP on the dyno sheet and a mental 10 flatish 1/4 mile.

So, what kind of rpm do these things buzz? Looks like a sweet installation under the hood. I never get to see anything like that around here. Usually it's Dodge Neon's with a super-wing and dark smoked windows all around

TTMT,

While I understand that this car is fast, we could debate all day on rather or not it is a ricer. They are made in Tennesse though right?

Naaah just local garages and speedshops :-laf That is why I specified "modern day foreign cars" The meaning of ricer is :

Ricer [risse-urr] N.

[Ricer: from the latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt]

A person who makes unecessary modifications to their economy sedan (mostly import cars from japan hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are

Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder

Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747

Lots of after-market company stickers they saw on cars in the Fast & Furious

Cold Air Intake- a tube that feeds cold air to their high performance hamsters.

Most of these riced cars (a. k. a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, Mitsubishi Eclipses, Toyota Camrys, Corollas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow.

Please note that there are many high performance import cars as well that are designed to go fast that are often mislabeled as "rice". Such cars as supras, skylines, wrx', NSX, Evo IV, etc. . fall into this category.

The ricer attempts to make their car "performance" by adding the modifications listed above. The best place to see a ricer is in his native habitat, any mall parking lot.

I do have to say, the WRX's are sweet little cars. If I HAD to get a car that's what I'd get. After beating the ever living life out of one for a "High RPM stumble. " I have new respect for them. Going into a clover leaf at 60 comming out the top at 95-100 all 4 wheels sliding and smoking was a riot! The best part... the owner was in the passenger seat :D ! He can't drive the car like that. He didn't believe that his car could even do it!

*Recommendation* DO NOT give a Mercedes-Benz tech your keys and complain about a "high RPM stumble" Your car will get the full 16 year old treatment!

in one of my local news papers auto sections, there was a defination of rice. i'll have to remember what it said, and i might be a little off, but it went something like this

rice: a vehicle that has been distastefully modified by its owner.

seems true to me. .

That's the difference between here and there Tim, anything that is not from the Big 3 is called a ricer down here. I know that some of their performance cars are true bad boys, but a ricer is a ricer is a ricer. ;)

The car pictured below is a bit 'ricey'... but it's about as close as it gets to a full race car from the factory.

There's an OEM LCD display in the dash (tilted towards the driver) that displays (from memory) some very vital information and makes it easy to read going down the road - name one other car in OEM form that lets you monitor: Boost, EGT, injector duty cycle, etc.

1998 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec

It was sitting in a shop that my friend works at - so I was a good doobie and posed for a photo. This car is just obscene - there's no other way to describe it.

I also drove around in my friend's '93 Toyota Supra (big single turbo, lots of engine work, GM TH-400 with transbrake). It made 600hp on 93 octane and 18psi not too long ago. One ride in that car will make anyone an instant believer in some Japanese performance vehicles.

90% of the Japanese 'performance vehicles' out there are jokes, though.

And remember - some street driven Dodge Neons have been known to go 10's in the 1/4 mile.
