My cruise control seems to like to go fast. I set it and all is well until there is a hill and then it speeds up about 10mph and wont come back down. I hold the coast button till it gets back down where its supposed to be and it speeds back up again. The only way to get it to behave is turn it off and back on again, I go through this 3-4 times and then it settles down and does what it is supposed to do. Also every once in a while for no apperent reason my voltage will go up to 15-16 volts, I turn on everything to get the voltage back down a little and in a few minutes its back to normal. This only happens once every 2-3 weeks.

TIA

John

My cruise did that when you set it. It would speed up until you turned it off. The dealer replaced the servo under the left battery and that fixed it.

I had the same experience as GTX on my 97 with the same cure. Lasted about 60,000 miles and started again.

The 2001 hasn't shown any problems in 15,000 miles.

I had a terrible time with my cruise control surging back in '99 when I first got the truck. I had the TSB done and that fixed the problem. Then about 1 year ago, I had problems with my cruise periodically wouldn't come on at all. The dealership diagnoised a bad servo, replaced it. Then when that didn't fix it, a bad PCM and replaced it also. That worked for about 1 month, then the problems started up again. They replaced the brake switch that time. That worked good until about 1 - 2 months ago. Now my cruise keeps surging again, just like it did the very 1st time. I took the truck to the dealer, figuring the new PCM needed a reflash. They said it already has the new program and will have to diagnois the problem. Doesn't seem like a vacumn problem, as it will surge speed, I have to cut it out 2 - 3 times and reset it before it will work properly. Any ideas.

It's an electrical glitch type thing. Just hit the cancel switch, and then hit set when it is at the speed you desire. It will learn where you want it to be. Try it, it does work. :D :D

There was a write up a couple years ago in the magazine. I don't know if it will fix this but it might be worth a shot...

When it acts up, switch it OFF, wait a few seconds, switch it back ON. SET a speed, wait about 20-30 seconds for it to reach steady state. Repeat.

20-25 cycles will "reteach" it. I don't know why it would forget but it seems I have to do this about once a year or so.

How about this, after I shut off my truck the little green cruise on indicator light will flash once only. Anyone else seen this ? Other than that it works fine.

Mine was surging also and the dealer replaced the APPS. That fixed it for a while but now I think it surging again. You could really see the surging in the boost gauge.

I'll have to try the on-off thing.

Thats a good idea, I do that on/off about 3-4 times each time I use it to make it work that session and maybe it needs a lot of that to learn real good. Dont know why the puter has anything to do with the cruies control anyway, they used to work just fine without the puter, oh well.

Thanks Every body for your help.

Well, my psycho cruise control is finally fixed. Took it to the dealer, turned out to be the servo they replaced a year ago (that was when they were throwing parts at it trying to solve the problem - didn't even need the servo then). Anyway, $110 later, cruise works good.
