Psychotty Air Filter

The only question I have is how much louder is it over the stock box. These truck are already loud inside and I want to be able to hear the person sitting next to me if I so desire.
I am going to try an RE-0880 and see how I like that, then maybe a Psychotty air.

I finally got mine installed over New Year's Weekend, and all it did for me, noisewise, was make the turbo whistle very apparent. I think the truck is more fun to drive being able to hear the turbo.

Mine didn't come with the 4. 5" rubber grommet, so I need to find one of those. I've heard those make the sucking noise a bit more prominent.

Rob,the grommet is just the outer rubber ring from a trailer tail light,you can pick one up from an auto parts for under $5.

To answer your question about "how
much louder than stock?"
On my truck the volume of the "turbo
whistle and air suction noise" is more
pronounced now. It is NOT so loud that
you can't carry on a conversation with
someone else in the truck or listen to
the radio/CD etc. Also, my silencer ring
has been out for awhile now, so that is
probably adding to some of the noise
I'm hearing.

But overall, I don't think you would
find it too loud. But you are right,
the Dodge CTD'S are louder inside than
the competitor's diesels.

Gee Whiz, here we go again. Everytime the Psychotty noise issue comes up I get nervous that my hearing is getting worse. I must be the only one who does not seem to notice it.

Another bonus to using the psychotty air filter is that the temps rise much slower than they did before. I especially notice that when towing. The overall temps on the grades are about 250 degrees lower which means that I can use more power before getting up above 1200 degrees pre turbo. Before I could only run 26 pounds of boost pulling my trailer up a grade and now I can run 30 pounds boost continuous and keep at 1200 degrees. More useable power! Now to talk the wife into the HX40 #ad

Ok, I have been wondering about this for a long time now and I finally have to ask, I have looked at many pictures of the Psychotty air setup but have never seen one in person (maybe that's my problem), But what is keeping the psychotty air from sucking up rain & snow throw the vents in the cowl ?

I know many of you already have the
"Psychotty Air Filter" on your trucks.
My son gave me one for Christmas and we
finally installed it yesterday.

The directions "Diesel Dynamics" sends
with the unit are excellent! It took
us about an hour to install it. We had
no problems at all, everything went
smooth.

After the install, we went for a ride
to "test" everything out. I wanted to
personally see if the EGT'S would be
lower as was described by alot of the
members who had previously installed
them.

As I pulled out of my driveway onto the
road I DEFINITELY knew this thing was
flowing more air! It is "louder" than
the stock unit. Mine has a higher pitched
sucking noise than the stock airbox with
the K&N filter and the fender "snorkel"
removed.

I recorded EGT's "before and after" and
can honestly say that this unit has
LOWERED my EGTS 100-125 degrees at ALL
speeds and conditions. I also feel that
under certain conditions the smoke has
lessened some.

Overall, I am very pleased with the unit
and the results. To my son, John, thanks
for a great Christmas son!

The end of Pyscotty towards the turbo is also open some, any water that gets in should flow though. If you look you will also see drain holes in the bottom of the factory airbox
