Some of the following may sound confusing. Once you start installing the Psycotty Air System you, will see what I mean. I am just passing along a few tips I learned. #ad


Thanks again Alaska Bee for the use of the hole saw. It worked great. The deburring tool included w/ the saw was a good idea. It worked well.

1) When you go to position the hole saw , there was a lip on the bottom edge of a reinforcing corner that interfered with the saw. You will need to be bent it straight w/ Channel locks.

2) I took a shop vac and vacuumed the cowl area. Used an old blanket to cover the surounding area.

3) After I deburred the hole, I put rubber Door edge moulding around the hole. Not real thick stuff. U-shaped made for car doors. Adds a nice clean touch. Covers up the bare metal too.

4) Inserted the induction unit into the hole then attempted to put hose on the intake of the turbo. Scott was not kidding we he said this will be a snug fit. WOW. I could have used another guy to hold the intake hose on the turbo intake while I tightened. It was almost to the point where it wasn`t going to fit. Surveyed the situation. I have to shorten this somehow without cutting back the intake hose. If it were designed shorter, It wouldn`t really be able to suck air. The length is needed for space between the filter and induction unit.

5) Noticed gaps in between the induction unit and the hole that I drilled. A lip at the top of the cowl was butting up against the unit preventing it from going in all the way. I got a rubber mallet, gave the big end of the induction unit a couple of light blows. Bingo. There are not more gaps. I nice tight fit in the Hole. #ad


6) Easier to clamp intake hose on turbo intake now, but still quite tight. I wanted to shorten the assembly up a little more just to clamp it.

7) Thought about pushing the intake hose onto the filter more. Tried this but the clamp is not clamping on the metal ring anymore. Scrapped that idea.

8) I was wresting with it when the filter was accidently pushed too far into the induction unit and passed the stops that are moulded into the unit at the small end that goes into the cowl. The filter will go past these if pushed too far. Now I have shortened it up enough where its a breeze to clamp the intake hose onto the turbo. Pulled the filter back out until it hit the stops at the big end of the induction. ( I can`t check to see if I distorted the small end of the filter by pushing it past the stops. It should be ok though)

9) Make sure you don`t leave the filter pushed in the induction unit all the way. It won`t be able to get ANY air. Make sure the filter is pulled OUT to the stops on the big end of the unit.

10) The noise changed a little bit from just the Scotty Air system. I noticed a substantial drop in EGT`s just driving around town. Wait till the cool fall air starts being sucked in. We should really notice a difference compared to 90 degree outside air.

If anyone wants to add something, or Scott1 you can correct me if you don`t recommend a tip.

Tips are always appreciated.
One thing I did find on some trucks is that little piece of double flange [body seam] you are describing is more pronounced and might need to be bent up a very small amount to allow for the close fit. I also found the edge near the passenger side where we drill the hole can have different measurements. Let me try to explain this. hmmmm. When you are facing the cowl and are ready to drill... you should be 1/4-1/2" in from the body seam that is to the left running vertically when you are facing the cowl.
Some trucks have a smaller body seam there then others [as much as 3/8" shorter].

I went to a 4. 5" hole to get us maximum air intake. Maybe we could go to a 4-1/4" but I that could impede the install even more.

I tried some rubber trim around the hole on my 98 and the 01 Ram and I got a really noticable vibration across the dash at 2300 RPM.

I am sure glad to see that you got the lower EGT's.

I forgot to add that the tilt or angle of the air unit is important also so that the end going into the cowl is angled properly. Theres pix of this on my site. I had to turn it a bit to get it to fit good and it will be snug.
