Does anyone know if an 04. 5 48re come with a PTO gear option? I'm trying to figure out if I can set up a Real Power generator on the truck. Thanks!

I was under the impression that the 48RE has no PTO provision... I could easily be mistaken. Have you crawled under to take a look?

This page has a picture of the PTO cover on the drivers side of a 5600. Passenger side looks the same.

The gear is behind that cover. I assume you won't be doing the installation yourself?

The 48LE does not have a PTO. The 48 is based apon the old Chrysler 727, which was an automotive transmission. As far as I know the only light Diesel auto transmission to have a PTO is the Allison. All the manual trannys used in the CTD have PTOs as they are truck based. If your truck is a 4X4, it MAY have a PTO option. In that case after you install the drive you must run with the Transfer case in "Neutral" and the transmission in drive, hopefully with the TC in "Lock-up".

Moose 00, who has no PTO options, unless he swaps his NV271 for a NV271HD :{

No I have no intentions of attempting this install. I do some light duty commercial work and the thought of having an onboard genie was appealing. I do have a 4x4 but it sounds like I'm out of luck. Oh well. I need to save for next week's TC and Valvebody install anyway.
