Local trailer dealer that is a B&W dealer tried one of their bases. It was much better and latched. They wouldn't take any money for trying their base even though I didn't buy the hitch from them.

I notified B&W and they are arranging freight to pick up the old base and deliver the new base.

I would not be surprised if it was a shipping issue. My B&W arrived beat to I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER from Etrailer...they should really be shipped freight and not UPS. B&W was kind enough to send me a touch up pin to cover all chips, scratches and gouges.

No the box looked pretty good. Had one hole in it. Who knows, it could of been dropped hard and tweaked it. Could of hit where there wasn't paint like onto a latch or something.
Etrailer ships in a box UPS. B&W ship freight on a pallet. I could of got a replacement base from etrailer but didn't like the UPS shipping, so I went with B&W to replace it. Easier for me to throw the old base on a pallet and wrap then try to UPS it.

What truck are you putting this in? Longbed be sure to place the straight sides of the head support towards the cab and as close to the cab as possible.

Why do you say that? I went with the middle position for extra Tailgate clearance when hooking up and the tailgate is down.

Yes I will put the uprights in the most forward position so I have the pin 2" forward of the rear axle. Which is pretty much industry standard location these days. Back in the day the typically went with centered over the axle.

You gots dat right!!!

The idea is to put some weight on the front axle.

With the mid position no weight is added.

With my 5,750# pin there is less than 200# applied to my front axle. I run full forward with straight edges of the head supports towards the cab.
