Puff of smoke...

I have a 99 3500 and about every time i start it it puffs a little black smoke, is this normal??? the motor has 77K on it and i have no muffler or res.

Is there a place on the 'net where I might be able to see that "Puff of smoke"

And to answer original question,, Very Normal for smoke to be at startup, it is even more on the 12Valve diesels.
