My 01 has 50K on it. Recently I have had an oil leak and I read the threads about emptying the puke bottle at each oil change. I never have so I changed it today. There was only a small amount of oil in it and about a 1/4 cup of anti freeze in it. This isn't normal is it?

Also I think I have the dreaded power steering pump seal leak virus and maybe a front oil seal but that is yet to be determined.

I had an oil anaylisis about 20k back and everything showed to be fine.

What about this antifreeze in the bottle?

I would pull an oil analysis ASAP. Also with the 5 year 100K mile warranty I would take it to the dealer and get this reported on the record. I would also look at the underside of the oil fill cap to see if you have a build up of sludge, can be a sign of antifreeze. If you do have antifreeze in the oil it will ruin your engine. If this ends up to be the case I would have DC put in a new engine under warranty. Good luck and welcome to the TDR.

PitBull gives good advice but first make sure it's really anti-freeze. Another member here had the same problem awhile ago, it ended up being Simple Green that he used to wash his engine...

Thanks for the note about the oil sample and the simple green.

While I havn't used simple green on it I have washed the engine at the car wash with degreaser recently. The green water came as a shock to me because the oil on the stick is still clean with about 3500 or so miles since an oil change. Also the filler cap and what I can see through the filler hole is clean.

I'll check the bottle again in the next day or so to see if I get any more. Also I'll watch the dipstick, if it changes I'll shut it down. and I'll get an oil sample in the mean time.

About the warranty, I understand what a little bombing can do to the rest of the drive-train warranty but what about the engine?

About the oil leak I was really hoping to find the breather tube bottle full of oil. I have been backing up a steep driveway a lot recently. I saw a service bulletin about installing a different tube and rerouting it to a different location because driving on steep grades off road can cause an excessive loss of oil through the ventilation tube.

Example- If you add a 4 inch exhaust the dealer "can" cancel your warranty :( My truck drive train will stay totally stock until the warranty is up. That is just me, I can't afford the repair bills. Sounds like you got soap in the bottle when you washed the engine. I bet your loss of oil is from the steep hill. I live on a steep hill but have not had any oil loss. I think some members have had the tsb performed to correct the oil loss on steep hills, you might check and see if the dealer would do it under warranty?? Worth a try.

while waiting for oil sample ,you could put sample of what is in bottle if you still have it in the freezer over night . That should tell if its freeze or soap and water. I would mix a soap water sample too and do it at the same time and put in freezer to as a control . LOL Ron Bissett in Louisville Metro that is .   :D

just a FYI, sometimes when water mixes with oil in the pill bottle it turns a greenish color and resembles antifreeze. but in reality its just rain/wash water that has collected in the bottle.

(Its most likely the green car wash degreaser!) I once used that green degreaser from the car wash to clean my engine and a few days later changed my oil. When I emptied the breather bottle it had a green liquid in it I really got worried but after a few nervous minutes of thinking I remembered cleaning the engine with the green degreaser!

:D

Thanks everybody for the heads up and the ideas.

I just took the "green stuff" out of the freezer it has turned clear and is hard as a rock.

I just put about 200 miles on my truck and the oil is still clear.

The truck goes to the dealer Thursday for the oil leaks. I would like to work on it myself but just can't find the time.

I'll take a sample soon and report back if there is a problem.

Thanks again. LLindsey
