I was just curious if anybody out there has ever hooked up to a cheby dm? I know a guy that has one and he wants to but I'm not to sure I want to take the risk of breaking something. Just wondering.

Save your money for the big day. IF you get traction you will break something, hopefully it is cheap to replace. Bone stock these trucks have the power to destroy the drivetrain if abused. My vote would be to not pull him. If you need to pull against him get a trailer and a stopwatch, find a big hill and let 'em eat.

Hookem Up

Get a good heavy tow strap (don't use a chain) and hook him up he doesn't have a prayer agains a Dodge. New Years Eve me and a bunch of my buds hook ours up and started to play and the light trucks didn't have a prayer. We hooked them up in the feild behind my house. If you hook to him on pavement wait till he starts to spin and then let him have it, once he brakes traction he's done. If your truck starts to wheel hop or starts bucking like a bull push in the clutch and hold the brake, he still wont be able to pull your truck.

I have seen this a few times out mudbogging..... especially after a few of the guys have had some beers.

Everytime it has been done, and I mean EVERYTIME, someone breaks. The last time was two fords with breathed on 460's..... one spun, and the other twisted the rear driveshaft right in half. One time, the strap broke, and took out a tail gate. The worst incident yet was when the hitch on one truck broke and the strap recoiled and the hitch went through the rear window of the other truck and caved in the guys face. He lived, but is permanently disfigured



I would advise against a pulloff..... these trucks (even the Doramax) have enough torque to do a lot of damage... to itself and the driver.

P. S. Should I use two 30,000 pound nylon tow straps ?? I think I'm going to tie them to the rear axle on both trucks.

Don't ever, and I mean ever, hook anything to the axles, or any part of the drivetrain or suspension. You will bend or break something. Hooking to the axles will break the axles or springs, or rip the springs off the frame.

Only hook to the frame.

I sure hope so. I was'nt sure and did'nt want him to break some expensive parts. I've seen people hook on to some pretty odd places before.

Actually guys,, No I wasn't kidding,, sorry about the long delay in responding to threads. .



I've heard about people breaking hitches,, bumpers, etc, etc So I assumed that tieing to the axle would be the best place to tie to keep from breaking much.

P. S. Both truck have Gooseneck Hitches... could tie there... ?

I'm not too crazy about hooking two trucks together, but if you're set on doing it I would think the gooseneck balls would be the better choice based on strength, especially if you have very much of a drop on your reciever. But if you use the gooseneck and a strap breaks, there is no tailgate to block the strap from going through the back windshield.

Not the goose neck

Seen a guy use his goose neck hitch and he bent the he11 out of the edge of his bed. If it were me I would get a good heavy cleviss and hook strait to the reciever hitch. If you use the reciever turn the drop hitch over to raise the hight of the hitch and transfer more wait to the rear axle. I have never seen anybody pull a reciever hitch off their truck. The only way I think you could brake that reciever is to get a good running start and yank the I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER out of it, and if you do that you deserve what you get. I have pulled in several truck pulls and I always pull off the reciever and I can tell you that sled if a he11 of a lot heavier than some little light wait Duracrap.

I don't remember who did it, but I saw a picture not too long ago of a reciever hitch that was pulled off the truck. It was pulling a sled. Looked like a pretzel.

Brain, your right, it was David Mitchell and that guy isn't right to begin with he is making some assume horse power. Just take a look at the Mitchell's web site www.enterpriseengine.com and you will see what I'm talking about. But most of us aren't making that kind of HP so the receiver is more than strong enough. Some of the real serious pullers have pulling style hitches on their trucks but most street stock pulls will not let you use this kind of hitch. I have used my tuck to pull plenty of things including a few Fords and have never had a failure of the receiver hitch, I have bent a couple of pins but they aren't that hard to cut off to get out. I'm still waiting for my buddy Ryan to hook up his new Duramax but I've had no luck so far. Something about my truck being to big and heavy and having tooo much power that scares him I geuss. :-laf. He did pull it last year at a pull we have here locally a got a hole 125' a couple of gasser Fords pulled farther than he did. :{

I wish I could try it, but living here in central Texas there is'nt any truck pulls that I know of. It's got to be a lot of fun. Ya'll are lucky up there.

Dave really isn't as hard on everybody elses trucks as he gets blamed for. He just babies them around unless they are his. Just because he has driven my truck twice and broke it both times doesn't mean a thing. I guess he knows i'll just take it in stride.
