I got to finally pull a good load with my truck. The most I had pulled so far was 12,000lbs. I had to go get a load of tires the other day. According to the scales, the trailer weighed 16,870lbs. It was an enclosed gooseneck full of used tires (about 500 tires). The reason why I got to pull it was the Duramax they usually use was in the shop because it was puking oil all over :D and they couldnt find why (still havent figured it out), and their other truck (ford with a 460) wouldnt pull it without the trans overheating. My truck pulled it great. Even with the #11 half foward, my EGT's were reasonable as long as it wasnt lugged to hard. I kept it in 4th until about 60-65 mph. I could use fifth as long as it was flat. any incline made egt's start to climb. It felt like my truck could do a wheelie if i wanted it to Oo.

I had the same situation my grandfather's IH flatbed that he hauls pallets on had a stuck throttle cable do to the ground cable coming loose and arcing it's self to the throttle cable so while he was getting it fixed (no it dosen't have a powerjoke in it) he asked me if I could haul a load of pallets for him so I said yeah so we went and loaded my 40' tri-axle gooseneck and when it was all said and done the springs on my truck were on the bumpers  it pulled it down the road no problem and stopped very well we got to where we were going and pulled on to the scale and it weighed 27,980 and I had the same issue you had with the EGTs in 4th gear no problem in 5th it was ok as long as I was on the flat.
