Has anybody tried a new Art Carr transmission?

hey I am looking to talk to the hts transmission builders here on TDR. I seem to have spent some coin on some stuff that only lasted 3400miles. Sry I am bypassing the dealer on this one as it is no longer in there hands as i have voided the dealer/installers warranty along with the HTS warranty.

I have a few questions for yal and a few things to show tdr members global. pics will be up later tommorow. I paid for a race transmission minus billet output and billet intermediate but asked for the best of the best no matter the price everywhere else in the transmission. now i have lots of scrap metal. so if a HTS transmission builder would contact me here i would appreciate it.

I have only pulled the OD housing off the back of the transmission and found so far:

clutches with no friction material and the steels that are burnt warped, have reminants of burnt aluminum on some pieces and reminants of burnt steel from the clutch pieces after the friction material wore off them.

lotsa of burnt and warped snap rings

burnt up torrington bearings

direct drive was the gear that worked the best out of the 4 and even it had black on the steels

aluminum OD piston is melted

planetary gear that the teeth are just starting to break apart. i caught it just in time after only part of one tooth broke. many more where are their way.

lets not even get into the fact that YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO USE SHOP RAGS/TOWEL w/e in a transmission. of which i found debris in a nify hiding place.

and what about front band adjustment. you all had them set right from your facility i checked just a second ago but not after having to break out my impact gun to break the lockdown nut loose. torque spec on the lock down nut is 25 lbs but t40 torx and 3/4 wrench wouldnt do the trick. can you imagine at 30k miles making the scheduled band adjustment only to realise you you have a frame wiring and all sorts of linkage in the way of you having to the impact gun in there??? when prevenative maintenance isnt easy people tend wait till failure to service. a wise man once told me if you want something done right you gotta do it yourself.

that saying is very true in many cases. so here i am with my transmission sitting here next to me in the kitchen on the computer shop air running into the house. done cooked a digiorno pizza and eating it and transmission fluid. well hts folks chime in cuz i have a things to talk to you about and ask. dont worry i aint interested in you telling me how to repair this cuz i personally hated them calls myself while working at a shop.

MAN the one thing tdr screwed up on when they made site is the left out the ability to upload songs or i just dont know how to. but umm after getting on and reading the PM's i have this one song running through my head with the lyrics "You find out who your friends are". TDR is full of them. I got PM's from HTS and NGM Diesel the Authorized Dealer. Both very positive wanting to get me back on the road after I undid everybolt they put back together. So HTS would you like for me to get a pallet and send my transmission to you??? how long will it take you to clean my original transmission case swap good guts and build the rest??? If turn around time is minimum it may be worth my time to just ride up there to michigan from eastern shore of MD.

all i see here on tdr is nothing but buddies willing to do nothing but help ya. no may i ask why do people let their memberships expire??? so they can waste 35 dollars a year else where. serious $35 dollars in diesel wont get you much further than a tdr membership.

Sounds like to me that HTS is certainly go the extra mile to make things right.

Hats off to good vendors that back their product. Oo. Oo. Oo.

its bout a 12 hour trip one way and i am thinkin bout running it to minimize down time. if i do i will bring the ATS convertor with me. I want my original case built up this time. so i will brign you 2 trannies if i make the run. if not I will ship you 2 cores and let you built me on transmission. by the looks of things the soonest i could leave town would be monday. will have to rent a uhaul. of some kind if i do make the trip. i am going to stick an airline on the cooler line to check for blockage. i will report back later. but um how long you think it will take to clean my good case and put together another transmission?this time i need to go ahead an step up to a billet output shaft

why does ats change the input shaft to the t-case to match the billet output they offer??? what are they doing to them? they bigger? more splines? are t-case input shafts at risk? or whats up with that?

dude yal done me right but my problem was getting the truck to ya. couldnt do it. i am still setting $300-$500 aside all the time to get some twins from yal and installed but more crap keeps coming up that cost more money to get it resolved. a $450 dollar tow bill (towing rates are coming down very fast) would further set me back on the turbos. so i pulled it myself this time. i am gonna need to buy another 15 quarts of amsoil again sadly. that stuff cost as much as black gold but is SOOOO worth it. but wade i really would like to keep sending yal payments to add credit toward twins purchase but cant seem to remember to call during normal business hours.

what did the installer have to say about it.

installer was NGM DIESEL and they are still the shop I will use for a many of things. right now i have time and a budget that wont allow me to have my truck loaded up and hauled over there. unbolting the transmission takes no time at all. and is simple as can be. but umm if i didnt have time and the money bill gates does I WOULD call my buddy to load my truck up and haul it 3 and half hours to wade and he could have it done in no time at all and done right. it would be about a day only cuz i would make wade run his errands and such with it to get the hts reccomended 50 shifts in before i got it home and found a powerstroke to put to shame.

but umm sorry i dont see me switching to midatlantic diesel performance any time soon. I found a shop i like after searching too long

I am not sure how you could take something like a logical question out of text and turn it into a sales pitch, but if that suites your style or makes you feel good about yourself, so be it. I can assure you, if you did not want the help, I will surely not offer it in the future

oh i guess i just jumped the gun sry. not trying to make myself feel or put nobody down. no need for that we are all here as one and for one reason we are all dodge truck/cummins ethusists

Our Billet Output Shaft for the Dodge is a two-piece design due to the way the Billet collar splines into the head gear (t-case input shaft). Each output shaft is matched to is't mating head gear. This design allows for us to pre-load the coupling of the shafts so that there is no play in the splines, thus making the joint stronger. You can see a picture of what I'm talking about here.

Wade, at least you were smart enough to remove your email from your DerekW profile. :-laf

I have had great service from Mid-Atlantic Diesel. :)

Wouldn't this be something better handled with phone calls than broadcasting all over the internet anyways? Every time I've talked to Dusty he's been very helpful.

Kind of what I thought. Talk to the installer, and/or builder first. Good to see HTS and NGM stepping up, though.

when I posted this my girl had my phone and couldnt get it back to me. but HTS has definitely hands down stepped up to the plate and have been really good to me so far here on tdr. i called once last week before i pulled it apart and the ATS converter was blamed. I called ATS and the guy i talked to was a prick who told me the convertors dont lock up in 2nd gear among with modded VB with 2nd gear lock up capability tho its listed right there on the website. we got in a slight arguement and got upset and hung up. thats been the typical ATS customer service for me and the reason the only ATS part on my truck is some used crap they sent me for brand new price. the other stuff I thought i was gonna run ended up sittin cuz i got tired of argueing with their customer service. twice is more than enough for me. But since i got off the phone with ATS i said screw this I am pulling this all myself and aint getting the run around. so far i found a few pretty things. but i wont be posting them for the public eyes cuz i dont need to ruin any shops rep. that has been good to me. HTS and NGM Diesel have been great and have really both stepped up to the plate.

some of the engineering staff needs to got back to engineering minivans and STAY IN THAT DEPARTMENT. finally got some time to start tracking my problem of failure down. cooler lines have no flow either direction. TOTALLY BLOCKED. I wanted my transmission rebuild last summer and i was told that you had to get rid of factory cooler lines and install a new cooler or new plumbing cuz of a check valve or something in the line. wellso i got to pulling the cooling system for the transmission out to find my blockage cut the line open and see what the heck caused it. some engineer at dodge decided lets run coolant from the back of the motor into a heater to heat the transmission fluid on a cold day. then run the fluid to a oil cooler and back to the transmission. well to get to it you have to pull the transmission, wiring harness, some other crap and then sit there and work on getting scars on your shaved head and cramps in your hands.

WHAT DODGE SHOULD HAVE DONE WOULD HAVE BEEN TO: install a transbrake write in the owners manual on cold days, start the truck, the truck will kick up its rpms after 30 seconds after starting then hold them there for 1 minute then you can drive during this minute bump the rpms up a few hundred with trans brake activated. THAT WOULD MAKE IT VERY FUN FOR THE AFTERMARKET GUYS LIKE US!!!! and of course warm up the transmission. in my case dodges design its going in the trash pile outback. I am running a NEW cooler with thermostatically controlled electric fan on the frame rail mounted at angle for air circulation along with some freaking crazy huge braid steel lines sitting around. but HTS is smart and very right despite being 750 miles away and never seen the truck. after all last night and early this morning I do believe i found myself a truck to ride up north. first i have to get these 2 vortech motor projects buttoned up and the suburban on the road before i can leave town in my buddies yoda.

I need supplier to get my 48re back together and tougher than she was. this go around ATS output, had to pay ATS to take my trashed ATS converter cut clean rebuild ship back out, ATS VB in the back room is going in this time, re-using my orignal case not the welded one that was considered a "Race transmission" to save bucks without my consent, I am adding some more performance oriented stuff that is not in this HTS that i have sittin on my shelf. and a few other changes to what i was told was a race transmission.

I just cant get another vehicle to go up there to play babysitter and get my transmission right. I dont wish to spend $500 or even $400 to have my truck loaded on the rollback again and hauled to the installer. I dont want the truck for transmission work (Other stuff YES) at the installers facility becuase i want to do this myself after HTS and NGM as a whole never decided to junk the original cooling system. hotrodders been telling me how to do my stuff when i dont ask and tell me stuff prolly got broke lose and restricted flow through cooler and i say "plugged... (they say something)... . NOT ITS TOTALLY BLOCKED NO FLOW AT ALL, NONE". its ok I got some Huge braided line i am gonna stick on there with thermostatic control fan. and a back to back pulling cooler that i can always put to service on my truck.

There some things in life that are free. but are they always worth it??? Not this time around. I have run out of time and dont have a budget for another rig so I am prepared to put my twins off even longer to spend money and get my transmission right this go around for another 40K miles(what can i say its a 48re). now who wants to sell me parts???
