Competition Pullin and lower HP trucks...like mine

Competition Driveshaft loop

Competition bombing= life expectancy

What is the most/worst damage I can do to my truck pulling it? What parts should I expect to break? What are other trucks like mine breaking?

I dyno around 310hp. I have 275's and an EZ. I (most likely) will be going with the twin disc from Mitchell's before spring.

Mostly all dirt pulling, just little county fair stuff-close to home. Maybe some black top, not very often.

I am talking like 4 or 5 pulls a year. This is a daily driver, and I would rather not totally destroy it.

I am just tired of watching from the stands. Or should I forget it??

300hp and Mitchells clutch, on 265 tires, I doubt you will break anything.

You may blow out the spiders becuase of the LSD letting go and grabbing, but small tires should break free first.

Remember to hold it on the governor, then start letting the clutch out, it will pull nice there.

i would rather pull in high range for the wheel speed, but just learning to pull you might be better in low and slow. the worst that can happen is you start hopping and break on the third bounce. the slow speed in low will be more forgiving as you are learning.

when i pulled i ran in second high range. the gassers didnt know what to expect as i held it pinned and slowly let out the clutch, and once the tires bit the track it was off to the races.

maybe we could pull together, let me know when and we'll show the some real power!

pullin'

Hey Jim, go ahead and pull that beast. There are plenty of vendors to sell you parts to replace the ones you break and other vendors to sell you power upgrades so you can break other stuff.

The above was posted in jest, I did not intend to enrage anyone or make fun of anyone.

Let us know when you pull, we'll be there to cheer you on.

P. S. How much you pay for that EZ?

Unless you are wanting to upgrade your clutch sooner than later,I would run in 3rd gear low range(I'm not sure about your 6 spd. )It was about right with my 5 spd,and didn't kill my poor lil SB con-o. I've seen guys start in too hi a gear and not let it hook up and totally smoke their clutch. Now if you get the mitchells clutch it will handle what you throw at it while pulling. I'm going to try this 13" OFE this season and see how it does. But may be upgradin to a dual disc pulling clutch. (Please no great clutch debates guys). Traction and track condition plays a factor too. Our drivelines are pretty stout, with the exception of the clutch,in stock form. Gene do you think you got your spider gear woes fixed,I'm just wondering about mine, but then again I aint makin quite the power you are ;) ... Doug

So, without going to a spool, or a true locker, is there anything to do to my LSD to help keep it from shucking its gears? It is pretty loose now, and I would like to tighten it up any ways. Thanks

Unless you go to an aggressive tire, it may survive.

if you pull a lot, it is a when, not an if.

When I got to the point where I was breaking them, it broke the new one in like 2 pulls.

Some try reversing the plates, to make it more aggresive, I don't know if that would help or not.

Run a non synthetic with no friction modifier, and live the chatter around turns.

Gene: Detroit... . very nice.

I'll cross that bridge when I can afford the toll..... until then... I'll pray that my arachnids stay in place and enjoy their lives.

I have this feeling that my rearend is going to grenade in typical Dana-70 fashion. With darn near 190k on the clock... it's well worn.

I have rebuilt a few Dana-70 carriers due to worn out clutches..... this eventually leads to bad spiders and all sorts of other happy things that aren't cheap.

Matt

Matt, start Dana 80 looking right now, no sense in fixing that one.

Back to the original question, after listening to the Forders, worst damage will be when the truck breaks clear in half, driving TO the pulls, becuase the PSD owners says they is junk.
