5th wheel bad luck

upgrading thoughts - mine /yours

I recentally sold a 5th wheel flat bed trailer and purchased a bumper mount 20' flat bed trailer. The bumper mount trailer causes driving problems.

there is airbags on the truck and I run them at ~60 psi. The trailer has a

035 Takeuchi mini excavator on it. Trailer weight when loaded is around 10,000 lbs. I have tried repositioning the excavator on the trailer, it seems

that if it is to far foward the front end is light, back to far I get a "teetering"(sp?) effect, I tried adjustments of 3" each direction nothing helps. I am going to try a weight distribution stinger that is rated for this amount of weight. BTW this truck pulled the 5th wheel flat bed with the excavator on it just fine over the same roads for 5 years with no problems. Only reason I changed was due to WA law that says 16,000 GVW must scale if you have an open trailer regardless of use. I pull this with a reg cab 4x4 long box 1990 CTD 3/4 ton pick up 5 speed transmission.

Any feedback with towing experience would be appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

I have towed with and without an equalizer hitch, the hitch with some experimenting with load placement should solve your problem. bg
