Competition Dyno at The Nowel Thomas event

Competition twins which turbos

Is it possible? Probably. is it feasible? I would like to find out. Here in the NW we pretty much only have three classes 6500- and 8500- and Unlimited(twins, etc) What I would like to know is if I were to keep my 2wd dually and bomb it could I , with the right tire choice be competitive against the 2wd guys if I had equal or better power? I talked to the guys at Scheid and they seem to think it really isnt worth it unless I just want to be different, I am inclined to believe them but would like to hear from you all on whether or not it is even worth the time.

Thanks,

Isaac

Around south western Ia and northern MO 2wd street truck pulling is very competitive. If you look in my readers rigs, one of my buddy's built a 2wd diesel pulling truck. It will run with the 4X4s.

You'll need to block the rear end up, and the weight will have to be in the bed. Usually the 2wds have a 28 or 30" hitch height. You will want ladder bars on your truck to hold the rear end. Most of the guys run MTR's, BFG MTs, or other aggressive mud tire. You want it set up so that when you pull the chain tight the front suspension will unload. If you can't get almost all the weight to transfer to the rear of the truck, you won't move the sled.

I can't help you more then that, find a tractor puller in the hot farm class, and they can help you weight the truck to pull. My buddy upset alot of guys 4X4's too. One guy even came up to him and said " you need to paint that thing green and yellow and pull it with the tractors were it belongs" :-laf

like them? I will have to crawl under there and see how tough it is to take the swaybar out, it says that you have to remove the swaybar to run the ladder bar. Is that hitch height measured from the ground? Thanks for the tips!

well in northern cal theres a dps chevy that i belive is 2wd bombed out its a chevy so it doesn't do well but ive seen a few new dodge dualys pull pretty good for a 2wd its all a matter of power and traction if all the weight is on the back and the tires have enough grip to not slip even w/ all the power you should pull pretty good

i have been told be several associations that if several trucks were built they would make a class. If or when our 5800 2wd blows (512 on alky) it i will get a dmax or a cummins in it.

WHAT!! your considering a maxipad for pulling has this site taught you nothing cummins has grunt a dmax never could i wouldn't even think about puting a dmax in a pull truck the only place they belong is in a junkyard lol well ok so maybe they aren't all bad but for pulling if your gonna spend the money to put in and bomb a diesel why do anything but cummins when u consider the reliability and power it can make over any other engine just my . 02

yeah but a cummins set up simalarly would pull better i think you really have to have only the one variable cuz say the 2 where modded the same they might have the same power but the grunt will be in a diff area on the curve the lower end will pull better once the engine is pulled down there tho they will both pull pretty good since they have simalar power and tq

well the reason for the max and not a psd or a cummins lol is cuz the truck is a 70's model chevy thought about staying in the same breed.

yeah i see your point i tend to do that too w/ gassers fords w/ ford chevy w/ chevy mopar w/ mopar but when ur doing all that work is it really worth the headache to transpant that dig engine when something else would go in just as easy and do better and besides its a cummins not like your putting morpar in there its its own different company so is dmax its izusu really your already crossing breeds if u will to stay true to chevy(if that is your wish) then get and old 6. 5 those where cevy engines but you get my drift its not like it will matter to much when you hook up it will pull just ahev to set it up a little diff maybe anyways good luck w/ it
