Galcier N.P Advice

Ok, All you experienced Motorhome people I need advise. I recently purchased a Monoco Diplomat Motorhome with the 330 Cummins. I know it says that I can pull a vehicle up to 10k lb's, but obviously the lighter the better. My 01 Dodge pick-up weighs 7109 lb's. Benefit to the pick-up is I could load my ATV in the back. Is that too heavy? I also have a Toyota FJ Cruiser but it has no neutral, so I would have to haul it on a trailer, total weight would be 6345 lb's. I have a 1999 Mercury Marque. What about pulling it? Will it tow OK?

Any advise or suggestion definitely welcome.

Yes it will tow it. Be sure to go with a 10,000 lb. tow bar and kit. We see many towing your truck with two utility 4x4 ATVs all the time.

Some people with the Diplomat complain about running a bit warm pulling hard, since it doesn't have the side mounted radiator.

You may want to post this question at RV. Net .

I agree that the MH will pull that much weight. Several manufacturer's sell a tow bar capable of that much weight also... . I prefer the Blue Ox Alexus. Steel tow-bar with ball and socket design vs. the typical bolt and lock-nut... . does not wear as fast with large amounts of weight. It is not the towing of large weight that wears out bars,it is the fore and aft jerking and side to side stresses of turning that exceeds design limits. Blue Ox sells mans a baseplate for your truck but specifies whether or not your truck has the optional sport package or not. Air brakes on pushers are great but that much weight requires a braking system and is also the law in many States and Canada. I always spec the US Gear model for large tow vehicles due to the fact that the driver can manually apply braking to Toad without using service brakes on MH... .comes in handy going down steep grades with sharp turns. US gear is also vehicle transferrable... . both Toad and MH. If you have a Freightliner chassis, the MH portion of the install is 90% done. The Toad generally takes 3-5hrs to complete... never done a fullsize Dodge but several others and will estimate only 3hrs for our Dodges because of all the room to get to the brake pedal and the like. Brake system installed for around $2400... BP and tow bar and light wiring and safety cables and misc will run another $1600 plus install. Advice? ... . buy a car trailer and put four wheelers and smaller car on trailer. Advantage!!? ... . for one,you will be money ahead in material and labor costs of legally and properly setting up a tow vehicle. Two... you can use trailer for other uses to justify expense. And three ... . with a trailer you will be able to back-up!My MH is 35" and I tow a CRV and have trouble manuevering... spelling?Carnival Worker... in tight Campgrounds and especially gas stations. With an estimated 26'long trailer to hold 2 4 wheelers and a small car... . I guessing that will be much safer on the road and cheaper to maintain than a tow combo ranging close to 10K. My $. 02
