Competition 3406 cat turbo on a cummins?

I need help figuring out what all I need to pull a sled.

Is this the type of setup I need?

I've heard stuff about adjustable hitches. Where do I find one or what do they look like so I can build my own?

Details please. :)

Strick-9, Most pulls have a set hitch hight of 24 to 26" I run a 2 1/2" drop hitch flipped over so it's a 2 1/2" rise and have a 1" clevies with a 1/2 twist. I've only pulled 4 times, (that doesn't include a few Furds and Chebys) :D and have had no problems with the hitch. We had a few guys at our local pull last year with welded hitches and they were too high so we sent them home. :( If you make something I would deffenently make it adjustible because some pulls have different rules than others. I have only seen one stock reciever hitch tore off and that was Dave Mitchell's but he is making some insain HP.

Good Luck and give her a good yank for me. ;) (the truck you sick O):-laf :-laf

I think if you go to the Enterprise Engine web site and look at Dave's broken hitch it shows the adjustable type----that's used a lot---I use the setup that you have a pic of----chris

Tore off?

It was RIPPED in half!

Stock hitch held up good, it just reached the point of no return.

Johnboy has a pretty neat hitch, e-mail him. Adj from about 20 to 30 inches.

Be careful about going "trick", they are banning anything except"reese type" on the East coast.

my hitch.........

It's pretty simple to make one like mine. I used a spreader bar for a farm tractor that I picked up at the local store for about 15 bucks. I bought a resse style mounting hitch that you would bolt a pintle hitch to. I then cut the hitch down so that it was just a little wider then the bar set on end. I chopped the bar down to the size I thought would be good. I then put a pretty good bevel on both sides of the bar where it was going to be welded to the hitch. I put several deep passes on the bar and hitch when I welded it on. I believe it will hold no problem. I offset the holes a little so that if you flip the hitch over, you will have different heights to put the clevis in. I can get really close to any hitch height that way.

Do not use a hollow tubed hitch for your pulling hitch. There isn't enough meat to weld to. I used a hollow one on my first hitch attempt and it broke at a pull. Sled Puller kept telling me it would, but you can't believe anything he says. ;)

It went like this:

Is that hollow?

Yup.

Can't use hollow, it will break.

Held this long, it won't break.

2 pulls later, SNAP! Johnboy goes 80mph down the track, leaving the sled behind.

I have it on video, if anyone would like to see it. hehehe

Then he built the other one, it is holding!:D

Coushin Hitch Bumper?

I've been thinking about pulling a sled, or atleast attempting to. Do you think they would let me pull with a coushin hitch bumper such as a DMI, P&H, or Shuck? I really need the coushin hitch for pulling wagons but want something that I can use to pull with too.

Thanks

Phill:D

45,000 pounds?

Is that what these pulling sleds weigh??!!!

Sorry, I'm new to pullin' but it sure interests me... .

Matt

On edit: In that pic that Strick-9 attached... it sure looks to me like an old Mass. plate... . not that anyone cares. :p

I would say most of them would be between 30,000 and 45,000.

Keep in mind that it seems like more when it it is all on the steel, and none on the wheels!

Gene

Yep

It's even worse when it's one of the sleds with the peaces of angle iron welded to the pan. :p When the box come up on one of those puppies you really know it. :--)

I can't wait to hook up to one once my transmission is stronger so that I too can leave vital pieces of my drivetrain in the dirt. :p

30-40k pounds is a lot... . I'd love to be behind the wheel pullin' it along in the dirt.

Matt

is one inch stock heavy enough to hold that weight??? i have pulled a couple of times with a one inch 1/2 twist clevis, but some of the other hitches i have seen are much heavier.
