Competition Thunder in Muncie pull/drag classes

Competition Calling all drag racers!

Don,

How do you get away with advancing the timing to 26?

How many rpms do you run with that engine? Tell me about the bigger injectors from Mitchell. Modified fueling curves sounds like very high rpm and short injection times to make it happen. What are you doing to not use an intercooler? Water? Alcohol?

Man, Im very curious.

Man, you gotta love the smoke output of those 12V's  . Great pic. , Don !!! Is that pic. available in a larger size for wallpaper use ? I'd love to put it on my pc.

Thanks

Dude!! You are my new Hero!!

That is one truly Bad ... Truck. I absolutely love all that smoke. I wish I had the nerve to do that with my truck.

Thanks for posting that awesome picture for us all to drool over  :D

looks familiar

I like leaving that kind of smoke on the drag strip! Great Pic Don, I hope that Indiana is better for you this year, although I will understand if you don't come. :D

Kat and Big Saint, the picture is available in a larger version. As soon as I get more time I will E-Mail it to you. Don, I really don't know if I'm getting away with 26 deg. or not. I will be tearing this motor down in the next month in order to install a custom camshaft and perform some piston surgery, along with a few other minor HP enhancements. I will be able to see what if any damage I have caused inside. At this point I am not running any aux. cooling although I am looking at water-alcohol injection. I like to load the turbo at 4500RPM's then let the "Big Dog Eat" as it were. About all I can tell you about the injectors is I understand they were taken out of Dave's truck to make room for bigger ones. Joe, the gentleman in that pic. was not me. I believe he was from Kansas or somewhere in that area. Darrell the sled operator, has been on a respirator every since that pull, I hope he fully recovers. whenever he sees me he starts into a terrible coughing fit. :D:D:D Eric, we will be there again this year, hopefully I'm making enough HP not to break anything. I would still like to see a lighter weight class for those of us who have had to strip our trucks in order to pull with the gassers. Todd, wait till you see the rest of the goodies I am installing on the Low HP Ram now.

I noticed that you don't have the propane in you sig anymore, is it because of the advanced timing.

Tell me about your clutch, mine is slipping pretty bad. I need to find one that will hold.

Also, thats a bad a. . picture.

High timing

I wouldn't worry about 26 degrees. I ran that much all summer during pulling season. I blew the head gasket at Carlisle, KY and I finally got around to fixing it about two weeks ago. I figured for sure that I would have a melted piston or two. When I lifted the head off, I couldn't believe it. The pistons looked brand new. You all shouldn't let these high timing stories scare you. It could happen but I've not seen any melted pistons... . yet. I am running a set-up on my truck that is almost identical to BIG DQ's. The pyro temps are unreadable and the horsepower is unreal. I am going to bump my timing a little over 30 this spring. I don't have a Mitchell camshaft yet, but when I do, my timing will be higher than 30. If you have a custom cam, marine pistons that are cut for clearance, really big turbo(s), and water injection, you can run timing around 40 degrees. Gotta love these 12-valves:D

Last fall I put the gov spring kit in my 94 I was getting a high RPM miss called Piers he said check your timing,I said OK got talking

alittle more & he said sometimes to make it easier just advance it alittle until it starts to run better & did this a couple of times & the last time I couldn't believe how strong it was, powershifting into 4th & getting sideways was great. That's with 35"BFG A-T on & a dry road(rough) pulled in my driveway & steam was coming out of the hood. Up blew a headgasket. While I had it apart I checked the timing it was @33 ,backed it to 16 Idon't know if the newer gasket holds more than the old one but don't want to find out either . I still have the high RPM miss that I guess is in the pump

So keep us posted on how your headgasket(s) like advanced timing. I also plan on doing some pulling & felt it's best to keep it

lower.

Don,

Sounds like somebody out there told you these things were impossible without drugs, eh?

I'll bet your curious.

Real power is made in the EAST.

The guys blows a head gasket and you come out cheering about high timing? MGM, take a nap and come back later. I never even brought up head gasket failures.
