Competition Thunder in Muncie pull/drag classes

Competition Calling all drag racers!

The guy that posted above wrote that his timing was at 33 and the head gasket blew.

Do you still think high timing is ok? The average guy dont need no high timin'!!

Don~

The real scoop on timing is, 32 deg. I haven't changed my sig in a while. the way to get away with this kind of timing is simple, lower compression ratios. Highly advanced timing merely allows for a larger fuel charge in the cylinder, which causes higher cylinder pressures which will indeed blow headgaskets, or worse. I blew my first headgasket at 18 deg timing. Unless you are going to run your motor at, or above 4000RPM all the time, I wouldn't advance timing more than 16deg.

Don

The timng issue is all over the place as far as were guys should run at. Stock fellas should stay lower. I like 15. 5 for everyday Joes and use.

Pullers, Racers, etc should run higher to benifit from said.

I have the 20 thou over head gasket in mine. I could run much higher timing, but generally dont for street use and evereyday stuff.

Don, that is one BA truck you got there. It looks like fun.

Big DQ

What you say sounds familiar, In my younger years I was fasinated with the Superstock diesel tractors and I remember talking with some guys about it, they told me there combo of using a shorter stroke to really lower the Compression ratio to the point were they had to eather(sp. . ) it to start then build MASSIVE amounts of boost(stupid numbers and rpm's) to make the power, I'm not in the timing issue but I sure like that truck and would like to see it along with others pull at an event, one other thing is I would like a full pic version if at all possible to put on my screen saver, the guys at work just stand there with there mouths open looking at it. My E-mail is -- email address removed -- if you please, take care and keep us posted.

Jim

Jim,

I dont think I have a choice. I let a ford and a 23 year old kid (Cord) bet me on the dyno yesterday. I gotta keep going.

Nothin' personal Cord. You know like I said... I may be able to outspend you, but you can out tune me anyday. Throwing parts on never beats a good and simple unsdrstanding of how stuff works.

Don, I'm 20 and you're gonna get slapped around on the dyno in KC if you make it. ;) But I guess it isn't as bad as a Ford beating you... . But then again it is an "overvalved" truck. LOL I hope to see you in KC

Greg, I am in the process of putting up a shop at the house. I don't know if Kenny and I can make it, but we will try. Do you know if anyone from this side of the world is going to be there?
