my buddy has a 2000 2500 4x4 called me last night about checking his rear brake pads, he said he could not get the drums off. My question is, is this thing like any other 3/4 ton I have fooled with where you have to remove the axle and jam nuts and bearings to get the drum off or has something changed so you do not have to do all that? Thanks, Chris... ... .....

No. Mine come right off. Loosen the shoe tension with the star wheel. You'll have to slide a small screw drive in next to the start wheel to release the anti reverse latch on the star wheel before it will back off. Make sure the orange retension tabs are off the lug studs and they should slide right off. :p

... ... ..... Addition to above... ... ... then put 2 nut back on the studs(loose) start it up and with the brakes on shift between drive and nutral and they will loosen right up.

Jims method works great, just make sure both wheels are off the ground

And yes keep a nut on it or it will launch
