Hello guys new to TDR and would reallly like some help on some pulling mods. I will be getting a 96 3500 12v 5 speed here soon and want to start in local street diesel pulls. I want to make the most power on single turbo but still be fairly street friendly. I think I want to go with Mitchell dd clutch, how is it's highway manners. Any advice on injectors, plates, GSK, turbo's, thought about b-1 series. Anthing to beat those Bank's powered powerstrokes.

Welcome. From everyone I have talked to th B-1 is a great turbo. The Piers Diamond B 370's are the best injectors for the price I've seen. I've read alot of guys putting down serious power with those injectors. 4,000 GSK and valve springs, ladder bars, and driveshaft loops. You should do pretty well I would think.

With that clutch, and the right power mods, you should have no trouble whooping up on just about any powerstrokes, and most dodges for that matter.
 
So the clutch is a good idea how about some other performance mods that would be helpful like best turbo for getting most power from single a turbo application. How much power is to much before daily driving becomes an issue.
 
I don't think anyone can tell you how much power is to much for street driving. It is different for everyone, some will suffer (or make others suffer) with smoky lag pigs and others will think that it is A O K. The better a turbo performs on the track the worse it will be on the street. You can't have both (as much as I want it also) As you get used to the power you will add more and still think it is streetable..... I don't think the average Dodge Diesel driver would want my truck in city traffic but I can get by as I have learned to drive it all over again, not as easy as it once was to drive.



I am sure that all the dual disc clutches have good enough street manners. I like my clutch it works good for towing and city driving and on the track. It is nice to have a clutch you don't have to worry about adding power and slipping it.



You may want to start with a good clutch then do easy cheap things like timing and sliding the plate till you figure out what is next.

I have to agree with those who recommend the clutch, you really can't go wrong with the Mitchell dual disk. It does have heavier pedal pressure, but you can't get somethin' for nothin so there is that trade off. The pressure isn't bad and well worth it as far as I'm cocerned. As far as smoothness and engagement - you can't beat it - just about any high performance single disk is worse. I tow a heavy trailer with mine and it is great. Not to mention it hooks like mad when you need it to. Severs hit the nail on the head as far as streetability - matter of opinion. You can get away with quite a bit on the street if you learn to. I would ask myself if you ever need to tow anything heavy. If so, that is a serious limitation. I'm told the standard B1 is a bit much for me because I tow heavy - 12,000 lbs + - but that the B1 - 2 would probably work. Proabably do like Severs says and start with the clutch and just build up from there. Good luck.

Thanks for giving me the low down on the clutch, it will definitely be my first upgrade. I do not tow anything heavy. I will basically just be using the truck as a street driven truck, but not everyday as I have other to vehicles to drive back and fourth to work, so I would like to put some power to the ground and start at some local pulls. All you 12v pullers help me out with some other mods besides Mitchell clutch, already getting one of those. Like I said I'm new to diesel trucks and dont' know where to start to get about 500 hp to ground. My wife gave me a 7,500 dollar build up budget

Well I'm very happy with my Piers Diamond B 370 injectors like I said before, a 10 plate is about as far as you can go with the stock turbo. Of course with that you will probably want some more RPM's, get a 4k GSK and valve springs. A 4inch exhaust sounds nice and helps the EGT's, as does a Good air filter. I don't care for K&N. I've seen to many things on the Wrong side of the intake tube. With a 7500 budget, after the clutch you should have a pretty good ammount left, you could upgrade your turbo, skip the 10 plate and go for something a bit larger, a 4 maybe. Don't push to much boost... then your going to need to Fire ring or O-ring the head. Everything is a cycle. More fuel, more heat, add more turbo for more air, now you need more fuel... ... . I'd call your favorite parts people, Piers, BD, DD, etc and talk to them.
