I have a 99 4x4. The steering is pulling to the right bad. I had alignment done and the guy said it was within specs. I told him to put steering out of specs and truck drove great for a while then went back to pull. I replaced front brakes and they both were worn almost equally. (dont remember which side was more/less) I am getting really tired of this problem! Any fixes?

All I can say is good luck. My old 4x4 had the same problem. My Cummins is 2wd, at first it started pulling to the right. I messed with the front end and got it to run pretty straight. Then after a 30 foot long skid it started pulling to the left.

I've got a similar problem, figured it was brakes, so replaced them, and lubed the caliper pins. We did find that one of the outer tie rod ends was badly worn (and only after 35K miles), so replaced it and had an alignment done. Still pulling, but only while braking. It's not a "bad" pull, just enough to have to counter steer a bit at times, and I'm so used to it, that I don't always realize it.

I had a pull problem while braking when my 98. 5 was new. The dealer rebuilt the front end per a TSB and its been fine since. This included a "skim" cut on the rotors. I've heard of others with pulling problems (while braking) and machining the rotors fixed the problem. Best of luck!

pulling to the righ also

I too have this issue with pulling to the right. It is still very noticeable when the crown in the road is larger than normal. However, If I drive on the left side of the crown, it pulls to the left slightly.

I found this link on the DodgeRam.org web site that provides some information regarding alignment procedures for the technician. It is supposed to allow/compensate for the crown in the road issue. Anyway, here is the direct link:

Suggested Alignment Specs

When or if I take my truck in, I have this information maybe it will help the technician???

Good Luck...

Re: pulling to the righ also

dpope thanks for the info. I will take it to the man and tell him to do it to it. Please keep all the info cummings in. I know this problem is inherent. I make a point to look at other 4x4's steering wheels and they are in the same position as mine while traveling. I also noticed that when I changed my brake fluid that fluid was hard to suck out of the passenger front. (I had to by a vacuum pump because the !@#$%^ old lady gripped about pumping them) But the brake dust is the same on both sides. How do you tell if you have a collapsed brake line? I was thinking that may be the problem!

I've got the same problem pulling to the right. My camber is high on the driver side. At 8. Not quite so high on the passenger side. But the allinement did not last very long.

This sounds wierd...

... but a lot of users have cured their brake pull by adjusting the REAR brakes.

Correctly lubed moving caliper parts has kept me "pull free" for 60,000 miles;)
