I know I have seen posts on severe pulling to the left on braking but a search has not led me to the cure. The front brake pads are 3000 miles new and all seems fine but if I brake hard I can EASILY make a swift lane change... . gotta hang on!

Any help and/or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Have you polished and lubed the pins the calipers slide on? My '95 stops straight even the times I've stood it on it's nose because of deer. I use Sil Glide from NAPA on the pins.

I have had this problem for four and a half years. My 91 did this, but to the right. Over the four years that I had it, I replaced the calipers five times. I fixed the problem for about two days to a month, then it would come back, every time. I sold the truck and got this one and now it does the same thing. I have just given up. Dodge trucks just pull when you hit the breaks. :( I greased the pins when I replaced the pads, flushed the break fluid, and bought the best stuff I could find. I use the Raybestos SSD super stops (black box). I have just gotten used to it. I really hope you have better luck. If you find a cure let me know. :confused: :(

Some have posted on other threads that mis-adjustment of the rear brakes can cause this problem. I never used to be concerned about collapsing the callipers and forcing the brake fluid back into the master cylinder. Since reading this site and being warned about that, I open the bleed valve and let the excess fluid out at the calliper. Twice a year I also appropriately lube all of the moving front brake parts when I change my winter/summer tires.

Maybe I am just lucky, but the reason I stated the above is because I have never had the problem you describe with my pickup. I hope I never do! Good luck finding the problem. Maybe Sam Peterson can help you. He is an ace at brakes.

What finally fixed the "automatic lane changing feature" on my trucks;

1) regular adjustment of rear brakes.

2) replace track bar on 4x4.

3) replace steering stabilizer.

I can now stop straight with no hands.

Whenever it starts drifting again a quick adjustment of the rears fixes it.

THANKS

I would have never thought of checking the rears! Well we have a project for the weekend.

On Dodge pickups having so much trouble with brakes... GM is the winner on brakes that suck... had a 76 Nova. . ate brakes and you could mix drinks with the shaking... 86 Buick wagon same thing only worse! My 91 Pontiac had the same thing... oh yeah I thought my PM program needed "reformating" but a friends alignment shop did no better.

Thanks guys

Mike
