Competition Houston Clash Of The Titans

Possible pulls / drags / show & shine

Hey all you sled pullers. I am brainstorming a new fundraiser for our fire dept. The old carnival just doesnt cut it anymore. There are two county fairs close by that always draw a good entry for truck and tractor pulls. Each fair runs pulls one night a year. Can you guys give me some pointers as to building a decent track, purse payouts, etc?

I know about finding a sled, liability insurance and all, but its the little things that keeps the pullers coming back is what I'm interested in. We are in farming country so I know farm and garden tractors would draw too, but I want those pickups there:cool:

The other thought is possibly renting the track at the fairgrounds and having our fire co. sponsor the pulls, but not sure how that would sit with the fire co. that resides in the fairgrounds town.

I am not a sled puller by any means, but I can give you a couple ideas.

Have a scale to weigh the participants, a hitch heigth specification.

Have a couple different classes.

Like a 7000 pound street class, then an 8000 lb class.

You make the rules, like the allowance of propane, nitrous, twin turbos etc.

Purses well, offer a couple hundred dollars for the winner of the 8000, 2nd around 75, 3rd 40

You will also want a tractor to smooth out the track after each pull, and have a someone with a roller prepare and harden the track before the pull or during.

Good luck!

Things are coming togther slowly. I have acquired the track, grandstands, announcers booth, etc. from the county fair. I am working with the county tractor pullers assn. on the sled and operator. Also got in touch with a local promoter for side by side drags:cool: The ran them at the fair last year and had an awesome crowd.

I want this to be good. The local farm boys are fun to watch at fair time, but I want the REAL trucks there for this one. (you listening gene?);) Whats it going to take to get you guys to come and put on a good show? Purses and trophies are no problem. Maybe even a show and shine before the events? Seems like it went over good at the buck and some people were upset with no truck show. Camping is available at the track, lets make a day of it.

Can some guys fix me up with schedules of other pulls so we dont interfere with anyone elses?

I'm pretty sure this is gonna fly. Not this year I dont think, unless in the fall, but next year definately. Maybe two events if it goes well.
