Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) pump cover question

anyone had problems installing the cover? pretty straight forward install? friend of mine had trouble with it, says he set the screw to deep? or is he just a jabroni . says if i want to try it i can. input please.

No problem with installing the cover. The 'weird' screws were a problem getting out. Put 'regular' torx screws back in. Hook everything up and turn on the key, then hook a voltmeter to the pump wire and turn the screw in until you get a good solid voltage reading that will be far enough. Hold the screw and tighten the lock nut. I've had mine off and back on with no problems. Hope this helps.

I have had my pump cover lose it's connenction three times. Each time I turned the screw another quarter turn and now it seems to be holding. I finally figured out that if you tighten the locknut to far, it will atually pull the allen screw away from the pump wire, even if you don't allow the allen screw to turn while your tightening the locknut. My advice if i was doing it again would be to turn the allen screw just far enough to light a tester with the key on. Then finger tighten the locknut. Finally turn the allen screw another half turn, which will solidify the connection and lock down the locknut securely.

well, got the cover from friend but missing the special bit!! he swears he used a regular 6-sided torx but i say B. S. where can I get one??

Some pumps use a regular 6-point Torx-some (like mine) use the 5 point tamper-resistant one. I got Blue Chip to send 1 of each with my cover when I ordered it-and now I can't remember what I did with them... .....



Think someone said you can get one through OTC?



The only advice I can give about the install is if you're installing a box other than a Blue Chip don't even tighten the ground screw down. I speak from experience when I say that overtightening the ground screw can be a real downer I followed basically the same path with the power screw as others are telling you-tighten it down a little at a time until you get power, then cinch the nut down. Mine's been on for around 4 months now with no problems at all... ...
