ok... it is 0* outside... i didnt plug the truck in... . i cycled the heater twice... it started... . ran like crap for a bit... . and then died... and cant get it started... ... it turns over and everything but is acting like it isnt getting fuel... . it is a 90 3/4 ... it has winterized fuel... i dont have guages so i cant tell you much more... any ideas??

While it was running did you notice the heaters going on/off intermittently like they should?? Once started it will have to work like heck to stay running. If your idle is even a tad low, and in that kind of temp, the alternator draw is just nasty. Since it's cold, and having to power that alternator it may be too much to stay running. Adding a touch of throttle when it starts would help.

Even winter fuel can gel on you, especially if there is a hint of water in it.

Try plugging it in for a few/couple hours, and also shove a trouble light under the hood near the fuel filter at the same time. Also get some additive in it too.

i am on my way to get some additive... i just have been strnaded for the last 3 hrs with no ride... good thing i didnt have much to do... anyways. . when it DID start it was smokin and shakin real bad. . nothing new... ****... . i was surprised it started !!my 98 never would have started in these temps... .

ok... changed the filter... the one that i took off was not gelled tho... . still changed it anyways. . primed the crap out of it and still nothing. . i also added additive to the fuel just in case... this is going on about 5hrs that it has been plugged in. . an 1hr with the additive and new filter... i am leanin more towards the pump... any other suggestions??

The primer lever on the lift pump will not work if the pump's internal lever is on the high point of the cam lobe. If this is the case, disconnect the shutoff solenoid and blip the starter a couple of times to turn the engine a bit. Try the primer lever again and see if you get fuel.

ok... . when i used the primer it primed... meaning i made sure that fuel came out... i even filled the filter thinkin the primer may not work... well... needless to say. . it still doesnt start. . but it is now in a heated shop and i will be able to work on it better... . i will keep you updated... as far as the injection pump goes... where is a good place that has a fair price for a rebuilt one??and as far as doing some performance mods... might as well go all out since it is off:D

Make sure your fuel solenoid is working or the wire has not come off. I doubt that's it, but worth checking. I would also crack a injector line and see if you are getting any fuel out of the pump. Bill

The fuel solenoid is toward the back of the inj. pump, just under the little "U" shaped boost tube that connects to the side of the domed AFC housing. It has 2 wires on it, one is blue and one is black. Make sure they are firmly seated on their spade connectors.

BTW it doesn't matter which wire is on which connector.

Also make sure that the KSB solenoid wire is making contact.

The KSB is on the side of the inj. pump, facing the drivers fender, and it has 1 wire on it.

The shaking is due to the cold. I'd make sure that the wires on the manifold heater are snug, and the connectors on the heater relays are also tight. They're the big thick black ones.

Shaking and smoking is a sign of retarded timing, even in that kind of temp you shouldn't have this much trouble. It may be the KSB is not working, or a combination of things... . keep us posted on your situation. .

i will check everything out here shortly... gettin something in my belly and then i am getting my daily allowance of barley and hops... and hope that will do the trick. . if not... i will still feel alright:D
