Do I really need to use a fuel additive in my Cummins?

My last trip to the races my 92 lost power and mileage. I changed the fuel filter it has a clean BHAF. It seems to me I read a thread once that said when the pump starts to fail you first notice mileage/power problems. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Rod

That could be a sign . Pull out your shut off valve and see if it is full of metal. Mine started misfiring because metal pluged the injectors.

If your lift pump is on its way out, it wont be supplying fuel to the IP like it should, thereby reducing fuel flow to the injectors. Not to say it ISNT your pump, just giving another option. My preferred M. O. is to start out with the less costly item and work your way up.

How long ago was your last valve adjustment?
