How many 1st gens have the pump turned up w/o injectors?

I will be getting Guages next month or maybe Dec. and then it will be smmmoookin baby. Seriously I dont want to turn it up too much. How long has your pump lasted turned up?

To be completely honest, I can only think of about 2 first gen owners who I've talked to that haven’t had their pump turned up. Most of them didn't have larger injectors. My pump has been turned up for about 38,000 miles. About 1,500 miles on my PW injectors.

Over 30,000 miles since I began tweaking the pump. I use fuel conditioner for the lubrication. Hoping it lasts a long time, but I'd like to upgrade the injectors to help, in time. I'm sure there are lots of folks with a lot more miles on tweaked pumps. This is something I've been curious about too, but haven't gotten any good answers.



I met a guy in Terre Haute at the Scheid's event who has his fuel screw all the way in, and backed out 1/4 turn. He ran it that way a long time hauling equipment, and recently put in POD's.

The old grey mule's original pump has been tweaked for the past 48,000 miles of 135,000.



When I get a round tuit I'll put in injectors, but first comes the rear-wheel disk conversion.

turned up pump

:cool: My pump has been turned up for about 1000 miles, but I also installed the pod injectors which allows the fuel to flow more freely. I thought about turning it back down, but it performs so well that I think I would be turning it back up. It does run rough while it is warming up, but smooths right out. Tim:) :) :) :) :)

Bad info.

Do not ever try to turn your power screw in all the way. If your pump is anywhere near healthy the engine will run away which might cause you to crash the truck or blow your engine. You can bury the screw or turn it in so far and the engine will idle fast and feel strong, but once you bring up the rpm's the internal pressure forces the springs to be overwhelmed and away the engine goes. The only way to stop the engine is to back the screw out FAST or cut the air to the engine. :eek: If you aren't prepared to loose your truck or engine, BE PREPARED.



Obviously this guys pump is a basket case and can't build anough pressure to cause a run away.



I don't do any adjusting on my pump prior to Dynoing or racing without a tool in my pocket at all times as I have stopped my engine from running away twice now. Being prepared has saved my engine or harm to anyone with quick prepared action.



Think about this guys. Can you turn your pump down in 5 sec or cut the air flow that quick. ;)

Mark, when you say don't turn the power screw in all the way, you're talking with the collar removed, right?



I'm about 99% sure that's what you mean, but because I've got mine turned right up to the collar, I just thought I'd verify for peace of mind. :D

Thanks for clarifying that, Mark. All I know is what the guy told me. Sorry guys, I sure didn't mean to pass on any bad info. :( Glad I didn't try it, because I had thought about it a couple times! Not sure why he said that, but I did watch his truck dyno 240/815.
