Would those of you that have had lift pump or injection pump failures mind posting whether or not you used fuel additives (and brand?). Thanks.

I use lucus's diesel additive, but I know that that is not the cause. My dad uses it in all his oil field equipment that are diesels, and has not had any problems. Those vehicle are abused everyday of thier existance, as well as being cummins, cats, and I am not sure what else.

I have 152,000 miles and have used Stanadyne every tankful from day one. Original VP44; injectors changed @ 150,000 and still clean as a whistle; lift pump replaced @ 145,000 but don't know how long before that it tanked. I do know that pieces of it had disintegrated and fortunately had been caught in the fuel filter, but that is what it is for, I guess.

Injection Pump died at 33k. I have not used any additives. I will start using after it goes on the dyno at Cummins. I don't think it has the power it should so the dealer is going to pay for the dyno run.

Just a side note, I have 80+k on my truck and go through a tank of diesel every 2 - 3 days.

I use the Stanadyne performance stuff (half bottle to 30 gallons of fuel). A fiend of mine runs it in all of his excavation equipment, in addition to his 94 12V with 70,000. My Inj. pump just died last week at 14,800. Go figure. Well, perhaps if enough folks respond to this message a cause and effect relationship can be established. I doubt it though--too many variables.
