pump timing

ken;

The gear gets rotated a little. do a search here and be prepared to read a little there is a lot of different ways it's being done. if you go the dealer or Cummins, they usually only do stock settings. occasionally you might find Cummins will set a little more. find a good shop, or someone on here that you can trust to help you out.

The pump gear to pump shaft is a taper fit so the timing adjustment is by pulling the gear off and changing it's position in relation to the shaft. The most common way to check the timing is to place a dial indicator with special adapter in the #1 barrel of the pump to measure the plunger lift, which correlates to degrease of advance.
