This is a question for the P7100 pump masters out there, Piers, Donnelly, etc. I have a 97 5spd. 215hp engine that I’m going to install an 180hp pump on, what I need to know is should I use the lift specs. for the 180hp pump or the 215hp pump. From what I have been able to glean from this site the pumps have different duration/lift on the pump camshafts. So I believe to time the engine correctly with the 180hp pump I should use lift specs. for the 180hp pump, is this correct or not. If not, maybe someone could enlighten me on the correct procedure and explain why my thinking is in error. :(

Before anyone chastises :-{} me for changing pumps, this 97 5spd is a tow only vehicle and the 180hp pump with a #4 plate and DDII’s will give me all the power I need for towing. Also don’t ask if I’m selling the pump, I’m not; It’s for the 2001 engine I have for future use. :p

What Don said :D

14 deg is about 4. 45 mm

16 deg about 4. 77 mm lift

Sorry that you don't deserve the power, but "a man's gotta know his limitations"--Harry Callahan

:D :D

OTOH, if you put it on a 24 valve, I'll know you are really OK

I have seen two differant numbers, 151 and 161, not sure what is correct but someone will chime in with the correct answer.

The 160hp has 131 and the 215hp has 181.

IMO the 180 pump with DDIII's and a #4 plate will be way to hot for towing. I can only use about 1/2 throttle at 1300 degrees. My 180 pump had 181 delivery valves in it and is now timed at 16 degrees. One more thing the 370's smoke way less for towing and make better bottom end. Just some more thoughts I hope you don't mind.

You gotta do air system upgrades too if you want to do fuel system upgrades

sickly now gets egt at 550 hp that used to come about at 250 hp.

370's vs DDIII's

I thought the DDIII's smoked less than the 370's but had a little less power.

I also have a HX40 and 4" exhaust waiting for the upgrade, plus the BHAF.

All I need now is to order the south bend clutch for the 5spd to 6spd transmission that is on the floor for the conversion.

Thanks for the input.

I'm also tow with my present setup with no EGT's problems, the power should be about the same with the new setup.
