Quick VE pump timing question: In an 11-29-2002 post by BushWakr (RIP) PB instructs one to "... loosen the injection pump mounting nuts with my "Snap-On SP-144 wrench. "". Here's the link if you want to see the post: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115745&page=4&highlight=timing

Here's the question: Exactly what is a Snap-On SP-144 wrench? Is it absolutely mandatory, or is there some other tool or combination of tools that will work?

And finally - how many pump bolts are there and exactly where are they located? I'm pondering setting my timing up a touch now that I've got all the other 'goodies' taken care of.

Thanks in advace for any info!

Mike

Here's a link to a pic of the sp144 wrench: http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...d=1288&supersede=&store=snapon-store&tool=all. The wrench used to access the hidden nut underneath the injection pump. There are three of them securing the pump to the timing gear housing.

I hear there is a set of S shaped wrenches available from Harbor Freight, in which there is a 13mm wrench that can be used to do the job of removing the hidden nut. Or you can take a cheap 13mm or 1/2" wrench and bend it with a torch. Time is money, IMO, and I already have a box full of tools, I don't need 10 extra China tools in my way when I can have a sexy sp144 wrench instead.

i just heated up a long 13mm wrench, the offset at the end really helps out, and you can usually get a 13mm cheap at sears or home depot. why buy what you can build?
