Will it help or hurt my egt's to advance my timing? Currently I can max them out at WOT. (1500+) Also, will it help to go to a larger (16cm) exhaust housing or just wait until I can get a larger turbo? If the answer is turbo, what size exhaust housing should be used? Right now I cant add any more fuel and need air improvements!

Advancing the timing will decrease your egt's but don't get excited, it won't help much. The trade off is increased cylinder pressures. A larger exh. housing will help but also with the trade off of more lag. I guess it boils down to where you plan on stopping. If you plan on adding more fuel in the future then you may want to save your money and put it towards a different turbo.

In Issue #29 of the TDR, Joe Donnelly wrote a very good

article about timing. I won't "rewrite" everything he wrote

but listed below are some of the things Joe Donnelly said:

"Advancing the timing will... ... (good characteristics)

Increase cylinder temperatures/pressures (power)

Increase fuel economy

Decrease exhaust temperature

Decrease your output of hydrocarbons"... .....

As "cumminsgetme" already said, a larger exhaust housing

WILL help your EGT's, but I too found that it will give some

"lag" on takeoff.

I answered another one of your threads about the 370's.

I would suggest that you save up for one of Piers' HX-40's!

I just got mine on and can tell you the thing works GREAT!

My EGT's are running lower than they were with my HX-35.

When my HX-40 was on my truck in "stock" condition I had

a slight lag but NOT NOW!! The throttle response on Piers

HX-40 is ALOT better than it is stock too! His mods to

a 16cm housing have the turbo performing like it really has

a 14cm housing!! I don't know how he does it but IT

WORKS!!

Good luck!

The first place I would look to lower EGT's is to slide that plate back to the stock position and replace it with a model from TST. You should get more power and a better power band. Depending on the plate, a 230/605 plate in the stock position should provide more power and better power band with lower EGT's, that a stock plate full forward will.
