Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Pump Wire Tap

Just cot an Edge Comp. I know I don't want the scotch-loc, Is the Bluechip Pump Cover the best way to go? I only have 63k and want to be as stealthy as possible. I understand the 98. 5 vp44 is the most vounerable & it might check-out in the first half hour. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill.

I got a Blue Chip pump cover on mine and it is really nice. If they are want to void your warranty They'll find whatever to do it. I just do what I want. Use your own judgement. You won't believe what hooking up the wire does. Just my opnion.

Dodges issued a memo last summer to dealers about the blue chip cover, they know about it. If you tap it, any way you choose, bye bye warranty. My 98. 5 as been holding up for over a year and 30K so far without missing a beat. I used Stanadyne performance additive in every tank, wetter it has anything to do with it, I don't know.

Go with the blue chip cover, just don't use the pump cover ground

Does anyone have any experience with the "pin prick" connector that edge makes. (i think it's edge) Supposedly it only makes a tiny pin sized whole in the pump wire, so I would think it would be hard to detect if you took it back off.



Anyone know anything about connecting with this method?

That's what I'm using, and it works good. I've had to take it off once to take my truck to the dealer, and there was a noticeable spot in the wire where it was pricked, but after rolling it and pinching it between my fingers, it basically disapeared. I think the easiest way for them to tell it's been tapped is the fact that the factory covering has been rolled back or torn... be careful when pulling that cover back, cause it's a tough piece, but if ripped, would be obvious.

Do you mean that you have to either roll it back or tear it? Rolling it back wouldn't be bad assuming you can un roll it if need be. Tearing it doesn't sound good. I'm hoping you mean that as long as one is careful installing it, it is easy to cover up if removed. Is that right?

when I said "the cover", I was referring to a protective cover that is over the top of the two wires that run on the VP44... the one you tap, the other you leave alone...

EDIT: The picture that really shows the "cover" I'm referring to is the one on the right-hand part of that page... you can see how the two wires come out of what looks to be one... that one is a fairly stiff piece of something that is there to protect the wires from wear (I think).

The wire at the pump has really hard and thin insolation on it. I had tryed to put a pin thought it and let it run down the wire inside the insolation. But the insolation was hard to penatate and even a pin did alot of damage to it. Later I just skined it and sodered on a 6 inch wire with a conector to it.

Guys don't blame the dealers... This a Bosch pump that will go to a Bosch pump rebuilder. Bosch is the one that will ultimately say it was tampered with. If you could see the core tag you would understand how well tracked these pumps are. They want the Vin. the eng # the installer,and the repair order #

If you prick the wire. Install a pusher pump soon after and you will not have any problems with fuel delivery to the VP or the lift pump.
