Pusher Pump Install Questions...

I went ahead and had the Lift Pump replaced at the dealer at about 20,000 mi. To save the new Lift Pump, I checked and finally ordered a Carter 4600HP 100gph, 7psi from Summit. My pressure at the inlet of the VP44 is 23-22psi at idle.



I thought this to be a bit high so I ordered the Carter 4070 72gph, 5psi. Put it on and my pressure at the inlet of the VP44 is STILL 23-22psi.



ANYONE with a pusher install please respond. When I ordered the 2nd pusher from Summit, I also received the Autometer full sweep electric fuel psi gage which is 0-15psi. Should I expect a drop in pressure when the pumps wear in? Obviously the Autometer will not work in the current configuration.



Am I beating either pump to death or the VP44? Gages that work within this range?



Any comments would be GREATLY appriciated.

i have a "non-standard" pusher pump. about 5K miles ago, i installed an aftermarket diaphragm pump--7 PSI, 70 gph. i wired it independent of the OEM, feeding the OEM. unfortunately i didn't have gauges at the time. recent gauge install shows 16 at idle, 10-12 at 60 MPH, and also, unfortunately, a dip to about 3 PSI with a WOT run. i'm going to bypass the pusher in the am, and see what the OEM alone runs.

btw, my Isspro EV fuel pressure gauge is a 0-30 PSI gauge. love the gauges.

I used a 0/35 Boost gauge as my fuel pressure one. If you don't mind the gauge saying boost on it, it works great. (Autometer Z's)

I take it that the meter is the mechanical type... or is it electric?



I am not worried about diesel exploding and burning me to a crisp in the passenger compartment, but if that small Tygon tubing gives, could be quite messy on the inside. How did you get around it, or are you just running it???



And thanks for the quick replies, going to be doing the gage install this weekend, and don't want to start out down the wrong path.
