If you looked at the line on a dyno sheet with a high HP engine, there are small "spikes" on the HP line. When an engine is getting all the fuel it can from the lift pump, there are a series of real quick spikes. At lest thats what it looks like to me. I think a pusher in line would help smooth out the fueling issue the lift pump has. Remember, the lift pump works just like an oil pump. There is no constant feed of the fuel. And too, it's sucking/drawing all the way from the tank. True the pump would still pump the same but the fuel would be in line, under pressure for the lift pump.
Just a theory. . don't nail me to a cross for my opinion.
