Another option would be the piston lift pump conversion. Would cost you around $200 for all the parts needed. It's a bolt up job, all from Cummins. You would get 13-16psi at idle, 10+psi at WOT. Plenty for 99% of 1st gen owners. It is a more reliable pump that the stock lift pump which is a 3-5psi at idle pump and prone to going bad, along with not near enough to keep up with a tuned pump and injectors. This would be all the insurance you would need IMO.
