When the fluid is cold and I drive a short distance and shut it off it will push fluid out of the fill cap???? Does eney body have a clue what is causing this??? And If i have to change the pump how hard is it and any hinters????? Thanks Justin

OK... I think

Last month the same thing happened to me, well not exactly. Since I had the driveline and fuel tank off, I was pulling the truck with the tractor and I guess that turning a power steering equiped truck without power doesn't do what it was designed for, if that makes any sense whatsoever:confused:

On a better note, it works fine now. ;)

On my Furd Danger :-laf , it has a small vent hole in the cap, and its ALWAYS wet:rolleyes:

It can push fluid past the cap if the fluid is foamy. I had symptoms similar to yours. I had a leaky pump shaft seal and was losing lots of fluid through the vacuum pump housing and into the timing case. I think I remember having leakage around the cap even when the fluid level was low. Air entrainment due to low oil level may cause the foam and possibly increase the rate of leakage. I'd top off the reservoir and drive it and it would work better for a while, but the problem would return. I eventually bought an inexpensive repair kit for the pump from Autozone and my problem was cured. This may be what you are experiencing. I think the low fluid level and corresponding air entrainment and air circulation throughout the system can create a vicious circle under the right conditions. I wrote a post about working on the pump several months back.

the reason why it pukes fluid out when you shut it off is because with it running you are compressing airated fluid or compressing an air pocket in the system with the pump when shut off the air decompresses & pushes out the fluid one good way to get rid of air is to pump the resivuar down to a vacum & turn the wheels back & fourth it will make all kinds of noise & you will have to add fluid till all the air is gone this may not work if the system is sucking air inon the low side of the system which is more likley your problem check your low hose pump housing & steering gear box for leaks clean them & run the truck while turning the wheels back & fourth to find the leak & repair it usualy if its sucking air it will leak fluid where it sucks but not at the same time:eek:

take care
