2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Question about 305's

I can remember one member (voice of reason) that has posted about this problem occuring on his truck. With my strange engine noises as of late (with no power loss, just annoying noise) I'm wondering if I could have a bent pushrod?

I had my valves adjusted at around 28k and a few of them were out of spec.

What noises will it produce?

What type of engine damagine is possible from it?

Kat, I think Adam(MY6EATSV8s) has bent a couple of push rods. It's a 12 valve but I'll bet he can answer your questions...

Now how could you have a bent push rod. You don't drive your truck that hard do you?

Never! ;) I baby it... ... ... ...

(as I dig up an *old* topic*)

FWIW, I think I may have bent one again--same noise, and a loud, bouncy boost gauge--not sure if it's related, gauge is new addition.

I know the TSB (# eludes me... ) for the extreme cold idle ramp-up is in response to ISBs bending pushrods in extreme cold due to varnishes forming on the valve stems due to the high airflow of the 24V head, and the valves not being able to stay warm enough, thus allowing varnishes to form, causing valves to stick in the guides/seats <?> and possibly bend. I'm going to do some homework on IATN (auto tech trade site), as there are a lot of large fleet managers who may be able to shed some light on it.

trent...

VOR ya dig this up after allmost TWO years to respond into answerig it later? WHOAH we need to get you on broadband internet LOL!! :D However being we are here THAT is an exelent post!

FWIW- in response to VOR's comment about the cold- I have had the same concern for where I live the temps do get down to -20 at times. I asked a rep from RM Cummins at the recent ATS event about warming up the CTD for extended periods of time in extreme temps. He said that long idling (up to 15 mins. ) is not a problem so long as it is driven after the idle period and NOT shut off. The shutting off after idling a while in cold temps is what can cause problems.

Man I knew that modem downloading was slow but thats ridiculous. I'd like to see a 24v bend push rods. I'd probably be able to if I could figure out where to put that 4K GSK (for my 99) I got for it. :-laf :-laf
