My friend had an Edge Comp (and boost fitting) put on his 99 5-spd today, but he brought it by (disappointed) and the power SUCKS!

He doesn't have gauges on it (yet, but going on in a week or so), so I don't know boost, EGT, or fuel press - BUT - I have one on my 01, and when you hammer mine in level 3 or higher, it rolls the black smoke and the turbo sounds like it is going to leave the planet. On his there is slightly more power than before, but no smoke at all on any setting, and it really doesn't put you back in your seat compared to mine, and the turbo sounds like a 5 or 6 on a 1-10 scale, where mine sounds like 11.

Power turns on on the box OK, I can feel it stutter when I switch between settings driving down the road, so I know it is sort of hooked up, and the pump wire looks to be tapped correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Can I plug in my box to his Edge harness to see if there's a difference? I know 99 and 01 are different Edge part numbers, but not sure if the diffference is the harness that is provided or the whole setup is different. HELP!

I'd say either the pump connection is loose or you have a bad ground, bad box. Try running a ground from the battery - to the air horn where the edge is ground. Then check his wire tap on the pump. I would get a fp gauge installed before turning the box on... . could be a bad lp not giving enough fuel to make power.

I did ask him about the lift pump, and he said it's new in the last 6 months or so. It would be much easier if we had the gauges on it...

I will check the ground like you said. Of course, it's not doing nothing, it's just not doing what I expected it to (compared to mine).

How would I check the wire tap? Is the a voltage I can backprobe for at the connector there? Do you know if I can plug in my box to his (Edge) harness?

The stock lp's are garbage. It doesn't matter if he installed it today... . still can be bad. I don't know the voltage at the pump because It is a signal wire & voltage will change. You really shouldn't run the truck without a FP gauge... . seems like the pump may be weak. It is not worth the gamble... . new vp44 is a $1200 bet without knowing his fuel pressure.

Like I said, gauges are going in next week, and then we'll know more. What's the easiest place to tap on a 99? My '01 has a banjo bolt on the VP with a schrader valve, but of course his doesn't. What about the two ports on the top of the filter housing?

id check the wire aand ground. i just installed a comp on my truck and was suprised that it wouldnt smoke. i didnt feel like it was giving me much power and my temps wouldnt go above 1100* on 5x5. took her to the track the next day and ran 15. 9's all night long with no smoke at all.

your right one of the ports on top of the filter housing is where to tap in... and yes those are pressures after the filter, so you will have an accurate reading to the pump.
