Ok guys... Need help again... Since I live in Northern Colorado, where 'real' tool stores are few and far between, I haven't been able to find the 1/4" NPT tap necessary for threading the exhaust manifold to install my Isspro pyrometer (tried Sears, but all they had was 1/8" NPT). Anyone have a mail order or online catalog suggestion of where the heck to get one???

Successfully installed my turbo boost gauge (the pyro gauge is also installed, though no sending unit yet)... Wasn't too bad, except for routing everything through the firewall (sharing the grommet with the hood latch cable). The Isspro gauges look nice, though the curved lenses pick up some serious glare from the back window.

Looks like my stock turbo with the #10 plate maxes out around 30 psi (sounds about right) with the wastegate blocked off. I'm preparing to re-install the stock wastegate elbow to see what the difference is (if the only difference is max boost, I might leave it hooked up for safety reasons). Can't wait to see what my egt's are!!

Man, that boost seems kinda low if you blocked your wastegate. I am running a #10 with the wastegate hooked up and I peak @ 36-38 between shifts. Stock HX-35 w/14cm2 turbine. I would think you should be up around maybe at least 40psi with the wastegate blocked. I would hook your wastegate back up for turbo safety reasons so you don't spin it into oblivion.

As for the 1/4" NPT tap, that's weird that Sears didn't have one. Don't you guys have an Orchard Supply Hardware around? I used to live in Durango and I think there was one in town. Been 'bout 4 years since I have been there, but I remember I didn't have much trouble finding tools there.

If you can't find one locally try going to Grainger at www.grainger.com they surely have one and they have a warehouse in Denver and should be able to send one out to you pretty quickly.

Try IFA if they don't have it they can get it overnight. I got a special filter wrench from them overnight at Dove Creek, CO.

If you live near Grand Junction try Western Implement Company, they have just about any tool! As for you boost thats pretty low!

Is your #10 plate installed all the way back? If your plate isn't installed properly it won't do you any good. Every milimeter is relevent on that plate, so you may want to check that out. Did your #10 kit come with a temp-plate to line it up? Good luck friend!

Personally I went to the 1/8" fitting. Didn't want to drill that huge hole for a 1/4" fitting. I purchased a 1/8" compression coupling and bored it out so the probe would pass full through. I think Isspro sells them too.

On the boost part, hhmmm.

A 97 manual should roast things with a #10 plate. EGTs can sky rocket and boost can easily pass 40 psi with a blocked wastegate. I would watch the RFG (right foot governor) until you get that pyro functional.

I agree on the rfg... 'till I figure out my EGT's, I don't want to 3-mile mill...
